i prefer bitter as a rule but tend to drink lager when out cos it's more difficult to get a decent pint in the pubs and smooth is too cold they have it on the same cooler as lager, bitter should be at cellar temprature. otherwise you cant taste it and thats the whole point with bitter, the taste.
