Yeah man, I listen to a lot of black metal. I love black metal. My favorite black metal band is GORGOROTH. I also listen to ****loads of other black metal bands.....JUDAS ISCARIOT, BLACK WITCHERY, PRIMIGENIUM, XASTHUR, CORPUS CHRISTII, MANIAC BUTCHER, NOKTURNAL MORTEM, GRAVELAND, MYSTERIIS, and on and on and on. I guess the point I was trying to make is just that there's soooooooo many bands playing that style these days, that maybe DARKTHRONE would do something unique, rather than put out another album of the same exact thing they've been doing for years now.
I can't force myself to like a band just because they're one of the originals, especially not when there are so many newer bands that play that style better. Sure DARKTHRONE has been around, but it doesn't mean they are the best at it. I think the best album they ever did was "Soulside Journey" and I still drag that one out occasionally and listen to it.
All this crap about being "true" really gripes my ass tho. I mean, come on, doesn't it get rediculously old hearing about that ****? If a band is doing what they want to do, they are being true to themselves. It isn't about 'staying underground' or being as 'cult' or 'necro' as possible. All that **** is just cliche' and trendy. Play what the hell you want to play and stop being so concerned about whether or not you fit into some sort of 'elite' category or whatever. I guess when you've been into metal as long as I have, you look past all the bull**** and just enjoy metal period, without any restraints or stupid cliche's. Metal is metal, whether it's black, death, thrash, power, doom, or whatever. I like to look at it like we're all in this together as one big happy family. If there's black metal bands out there who like to segregate themselves from other bands, that's fine, but if you ask me they're being as hypocritical as the very cause for which they are against. I don't need christians, nor do I need a bunch of pompous assholes who think they are some sort of elite band who's better than everyone else. **** 'em.
