Re: In Rainbows
I just finished listening to it a few minutes ago. I thought it was pretty good, not great. I'd say it's maybe on par with Hail to the Thief? I dunno. I'll have to listen to it a few more times when I can give it more attention (I was drawing whilst listening) before I decide. As it is, the album really didn't register for me at all.
I do like how they're offering it, though. Buyer decides the price? Cool. We'll see how much good that does them, though...I didn't pay for it, and I'm sure I'm not alone. But there'll probably be some people who will pay them like 100 dollars for it, though, just because they feel Radiohead deserves it.
Hopefully the record companies will pay attention to this one. I wonder when Radiohead will announce whether it was profitable or not.

Re: In Rainbows
Yeah, I'm still on the fence about it myself. Does sound alot like Hail to the Thief on the first few listens but give me a few weeks I might decide it ranks up there with The Bends and OK Computer. Sadly I got my hands on the new Sunset Rubdown and Shout Out Louds albums at the same time...I am being forced to split my attention.
As for their decision to sell it themselves online for no set price and to cut a label out of the deal I think they are geniuses. The album already made them a profit and a substantial one. Guaranteed. Yes they put in time making the thing but otherwise every download is probably at least 90% profit...they have some IT guys and are paying for bandwidth. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see another album from them for another 4-5 years they are going to each make millions off this album especially if they tour like normal.
I think most people will at least pay something for the download if they have money. I mean if at this moment you had say 500+ dollars in your savings and nothing big looming on the horizon I would bet you would have paid something towards the album. I dunno as soon as I heard about them doing this I fell in love with the idea. From a marketing standpoint it is brilliant. I think they are going to rake in the cash at the same time they revolutionize the music industry and once again solidify themselves as one of the greatest bands of all time.

Yeah, I've got the new Shout Out Louds too. I think my opinion on it is a pretty solid "meh." Nothing on it makes me sit up and take notice.

Re: In Rainbows
I had completely the opposite reaction. I love it. listened to it more than I did Radiohead or Sunset Rubdown last night at work...could have just been my mood though. I don't think they have taken any great leaps since the last album but it seems like they have progressed and built upon their sound. They will never be an influential band, but I still really enjoy listening to them.
