What are the rules regarding fan fics?
Do the stories have to be solely involving the original cast?
Can some stories be done regarding the Realm itself?
Say even including other characters developing what happened after or meanwhile an actual story was running?

It just has to include the realm of where the kids of the series are set. It can have the old characters, or you can make up some new ones, or a mix of both!
