The Game of Mafia
I'm starting this thread now so I have some rules laid out before we begin. The game can turn out pretty funny at times, and it's always interesting. I hope you join and enjoy. If you do want to join, PM me. If you don't know how, I'll explain it in this thread. If it seems complicated, it's not. You can keep checking back to see what to do, ask others, and PM me if you need extra help. You have 48 hours to think on each act you do, so take your time.
All of the roles in the game are BOLDED so if you need help with one, finding it should be no problem.
First off, the basic rule. Every player will belong to either the Mafia or Citizen Faction (faction is just a fancy word for group, I guess). The Mafia are made up of the "bad guys" who are trying to win by disguising their identities and becoming the majority of the people in the town. The Citizens are the peace-keepers and the tough-justice crowd. They win by eliminating through popular vote every last Mafia member. To summarize: the Mafia win when they make up more than 50% of the players in the game who are still alive. The Citizens win when they've eliminated every Mafia member, and there are only Citizen players remaining.
Here's how the game works. The first round is a Night Round. This means that everyone in the Mafia will select somebody to kill. They'll PM me, and when the night round is over (which will be close to 48 hours) I will make a post detailing who has been killed, and I will reveal their position to everyone in the game (mafia, citizen, etc...) along with a list of all the players remaining and all the positions remaining. At the bottom, the post will show all that I need for the next round, which will be day.
In the Day Round, it's the citizen's turn. Every player has the right to vote here (including mafia, so beware) and the most popular vote will be killed, be it mafia or citizen. Obviously, you're aiming for mafia to be killed here. After 48 hours or about 5 votes for one person, that person will be killed. You may also vote for no kill, which is especially useful in the first round or two, when there's no evidence and you don't want to kill a citizen. Again, same as above, I will narrate who died, what position they really were, and update the list of remaining players and roles. I'll then say what PMs and what else I need for the next round.
Now for something a bit more detailed. At the beginning of the game, everyone is assigned two things at random: a position and a room. I'll start with the position, since it's a lot more important. For the Citizens, there are three special roles. Most importantly is the sheriff.
Every night, The Sheriff will PM me the name of a player. I will then reveal to the sheriff if that person is a Mafia member or Citizen. The sheriff may then do with this info what he wishes.
There is also The Doctor. The Doctor chooses somebody every night and PMs me their name. If that person is attacked by the mafia, they will not die. Rather, they will be saved by the doctor, and this will be reported as per usual. The doctor will remain anonymous, however.
Lastly is The Insomniac. The Insomniac acts as a normal citizen. His only power is to vote during the day. However, he has one special quirk. If somebody does something in a room next to the insomniac during the night, he/she will receive a message saying what happened in the room next to them. If it happens in their room, they'll also be told WHO it was. (Since who is in what room is public knowledge, you can know, for example, that the sheriff checked out Beth, for instance, but not who the sheriff was.)
Everyone who doesn't have one of these positions is an ordinary citizen. They simply vote in the day phases and keep the citizens alive by keeping the mafia from reaching 50%.
Still with me? Good. You'll only need to know your job very well, and you can always look back on this thread.
The mafia is next. Their only special position is Godfather. The Godfather acts as a normal mafia member, but if the sheriff checks the Godfather, he will show as being a citizen, even though he is a mafia member. He also cannot be killed at night by any means. Every Mafia Member will know who is in the Mafia. Nobody else will know.
Every Mafia member will PM me three names each night. Whoever has the most votes will be killed at the end of the night. This will be reported as I said before.
I said before I'd explain rooms, so here it is. You'll be assigned a room number randomly. This is used to decide tie votes, where the highest room number is picked. It's also used in the case of the insomniac. Rooms that are next to each other, or adjacent, have different numbers. This means that if there are 8 rooms, rooms 8 and 1 are NOT adjacent.
As you may have guessed, I'm ineligible to play, since I'm the Game Master. I'll be narrating the events as they happen and I'll be in charge of all the events that take place. You just have to act out your role and wait for the result.
There are NO RULES except the above. You are free to use whatever means to discover everyone's roles. I don't care if you bribe them with cash. You can talk about the game at any time anywhere, in private or in public in order to win. Keep in mind, though, that nobody will trust anyone until they are sure of your position. Saying you're the Sheriff will make you suspicious, and if you say it in the presence of a mafia member, you're going to be a target. This is what makes the game exciting. You can even try to get me to reveal someone's role, or trick other people into it. Always be cautious.
Finally, and this is the last paragraph, here's how to PM somebody. On the main page which shows all the boards (The Foyer, Recharge, Youth Board, and Florida) above the boards at the top are a few links. The second one is Control Panel. This is where you'll logout probably, unless you use a different link. There's a button closer to the bottom that says inbox. Above it it will tell you how many messages you have. When you click it, it'll take you to a box of messages (if there are any) exactly like email. The button to send a new message is at the top left. It says compose new. You should be able to figure it out from here. In the TO box, type the screen name of the person. (ie Yakko Warner, Sir Tanooki, Bethica, etc...) Make sure it's spelled correctly, add a subject if you want and then type your message. It's 100% the same to email, but in a smaller form. Once you find the buttons I talked about to get there, it's easy.
If you want to sign up for the game, PM me saying so. Once we get 8 people (or perhaps less if it takes too long) I'll start PM'ing people their roles and rooms. This information will be PRIVATE. Don't let anyone else see the PM. Both roles and rooms are totally random each game.
That's all. Have fun, don't sweat it, PM me if you need me. And remember, everything somebody says about the game may be a potential clue to their identity.

That's right. That's it. It means we need one more player! This order in no way determines everything. All roles will be RANDOM. As soon as the 8th person joins, I will send out the roles. Laura has played before, so hopefully my set of rules won't be too different for you. This'll be my first time hosting one, but I've played a few games before elsewhere.

I think I'm just going to start with 7 people. It may not work as well, but I'll deal with it. It may be a little harder for the mafia to win, but here's how it'll go:
There will be three mafia members, one of them the Godfather. When the mafia leaves only one citizen, they will win. It's kind of hard, but it's as best I could do with 7 people. (And two mafia members could be pretty lame although I could try it next time if this doesn't work.)
The Sheriff will only be able to check identities every OTHER night, which means on night 2, 4, 6, etc... This is to prevent the mafia from being so easy to discover with so little people.
I'm sending out the PMs for position now, which will be selected randomly. Check your PM boxes! If you don't receive a PM, you are a citizen.
Okay, here's the current standing:

Mafia/Citizen ratio: 3:4

NEWS BULLETIN: Anytown, USA has suffered a terrible tragedy. A murder has taken place. The victim: Chris, a known insomniac. Police found spray-painted walls with messages such as "who's laughing now, octopus" and "now what's so hilarious?" The victim was found stabbed to death with a hairbrush Police suspect foul play and organized crime.
Chris the Insomniac has been killed by the Mafia.

It's okay. I suppose that it's the point of the game to be suspicious of people.
I, however, have a hunch about Kyle...so my vote is for him. Right now there isn't much basis against anyone, as far as I can tell.
