posticon aspect ratio question

hi london fcp!

i need to change the aspect ratio of a video from:

16:9 to 15:9.4
190x720 pixels with safe area of 990x620

the video is for web and this is the size the company needs it to be.

i need to do it properly rather than just resizing it as it cant look wierd in any way.

thank you in advance for any advice

have a lovely day

Re: aspect ratio question

Hey - sorry about the delay - I have had MASSIVE email trouble this weekend...

Because ratio is by definition a change in the proportions of the canvass you are working on, there are only 3 ways to deal with this situation:

1. Distort the image to fit Lose none of the original, but it will look proportionally dfferent. Not good for you judging by your description.

2. Cropping part of the image (fills the canvass - lose some of the original image:

3. Letterboxing the image (Loses none of the original but does not utilize all of the canvass :

Now your dimension are confusing me.

190x720 with a safe are of 990x620?

Is that a typo? How can a safe area be larger that an original area. Also, there is generally no such thing as SAFE AREA for web.

That's a TV thing.

Maybe you could clear up my confusion emoticon

thanx for your reply...

yeah you're right typo sorry about that

1090x720 is what i meant to write

also the safe area doesn't matter cos it is for web

i understand your suggestions but for some reason i was thinking there was a way to change the size by working out the maths of it all. not being very good at maths however may make me seem relatively silly right now but i thought there's no harm in asking emoticon

cheers for the help

xx
