Re: Tiki Stuff Alerts!
Oh! OH! This has nothing to do with Ingrid or Gregory...but...
did anyone see the Ace of Cakes last night? Awesome Tiki cake. Really. I was very disappointed in the other cake, though. In case you didn't see, it was a wedding cake with two horse nibbling on the sides. Uh...yeah. The actually wedding cake part was okay but the horses...please. I wanted to call the bride and ask, "You're paying how much for this?" To put it bluntly, they sucked. Badly. My daughter made better playdough animals when she was, like, 7. Seriously, I'm sure this is a very expensive place to purchase a special occasion cake. I'd expect some better sculpting...especially for a wedding. I spent the entire show saying, "I could SO do this job...better!" Hmmmm......Do I see a Food Network Challenge in my future???

Re: Tiki Stuff Alerts!
Actually, I was thinking that someone may have mentioned a tiki cake...but I couldn't remember. I forgets stuff...a lot.
As far as the challenge goes, my cake may look good, but it will probably taste disgusting.

Re: Tiki Stuff Alerts!
oh, and just in case anyone thinks my original critique of the horsey cake was a bit harsh...
It was. I feel a little guilty about it, now. Just so you know, I'm quite aware that my contempt for the horse sculptor really has nothing to do with her skills (she worked hard and I give her credit for it). It all stems from my frustration at myself for not having the you-know-whats to put myself out there like that and create something interesting...on national tv...for all to see. Please forgive me, Ms. Horse-Sculpterer...

Re: Tiki Stuff Alerts!
Actually, I should have been more clear. I really don't want to be on TV...or the center of attention in any way at all...I just meant that I'm envious of her...um...confidence. I didn't really word my post all that well.
yes, I know I'm allowed to not like things...I think I'm just overly aware of the effects of poorly worded "constructive" criticism. Too many painful comments bandied about during art class critiques. Brutal...not only for myself, but brutal to have to sit through someone else's, too.

Tiki Stuff Alerts!
Well, Teeks. It's hard to see professionals do the things that amatuers do, especially if the amateurs can do it better. This is why, each year, I swear I will never watch AI again. And, each year, when the auditions are being watched on my TV I say (like a dork), "Is this on already? Anybody sitting here?"
A little disclaimer. Some of the contestants are very good singers. But my point is that some aren't. I would guess America has less than 100 truuuuuuuuuuuly good, smacked-on-the-butt-by-Zeus-when-they-were-born type singers at any one time. AI's job is to really find the last few that remain undiscovered. Just like, did you ever notice there are only about 3 or 4 really, really great QB's in the NFL at any given time?

Re: Tiki Stuff Alerts!
Hunh...I guess it's easier to be a visual artist. I mean, much of what is considered great art is really just a matter of opinion. I found it difficult to be a student. Once you get past the basics, it's anything goes. Niche finding can be a challenge...
I come from a world of artists and philosophers(**coughslackerscough**). We don't mix well with practicality.

Re: …
I watched all of Season one and half of season two...I think I've mentioned that I have no idea what happened...I just stopped watching even though I liked it. I probably got distracted by my kids' lives...probably.
