Hunh...maybe they're the reason why, when I asked the girl at the garden store where I could find the paperwhite bulbs, she looked horrified and pressed a little button under the counter. Then? before I knew what was happening, a black hood was placed over my head, I was lead to a waiting van and driven to an undisclosed location. There, I was able to buy my paperwhites...cash only, please...and I was instructed to NEVER, ever talk about who sold them to me. Yikes. They told me that if I did, they'd sic their Guardian Ferns after me.

That happened to me once when I bought those saffron crocus. Somehow I ended up in a warehouse in a food getto. It was scary. They had fresh Twinkies there under armed guard.

Fresh Twinkies!!!!! I thought they stopped making new Twinkies way back in the sixties...Fresh Twinkies...no wonder they were under guard. Those things are worth a fortune.

It's all becoming clear, now. I always wondered why, every time I happened to be driving near the Kennedy Compound, I'd see a Hostess delivery van...

btw...the Warren and Jimmy Buffet line made my morning. Hilarious...

Re: …

A couple of years ago Oprah did a show about the lives of the children/grandchildren of the country's richest people (The Johnson & Johnson's heir made a documentary about it or something...) Anyway, she had Warren Buffet's granddaughter on, and she works as a nanny and lives in a small apartment and lives a normal life. She said that her grandfather would pay for the education of any of his family members, but that's it--he believes (rightly so) that they need to work for their living just as he did.

Anyway, my husband came in and I was all, "I have such respect for Jimmy Buffet. Here he is, one of the richest men in the world yet he doesn't allow his family to become spoiled and coddled. His granddaughter could easily have been like Paris Hilton, but her grandfather helped teach her the value of hard work and living within one's means."

And my husband says, "I don't think Jimmy Buffet is one of the richest men in the world. I don't even think he's one of the richest men in the country."

And I argued with him for nearly 10 minutes. Oprah said he was, dammit, so it must be true! And then he says, "Are you talking about Warren Buffet?"

And I felt like a big idiot for the rest of the day.

Yeah, I saw Warren in concert. Good show. Donnie Trump and the Aces opened up. ;)

Okay...so...did I ever tell you guys about my friend who "houseboat" sat (is that right?...doesn't sound right...oh well) in Key West for a winter? (way back in the 80s). She stayed on a houseboat in the same place where Jimmy Buffet lived on (kept? his boat. Just between us...she said that he's a complete...um...a-hole. She hated him.

Re: …

So is John Mayer. I went to high school with him (he was a few years behind me). He was a total buttmunch. It makes it hard for me to like his music. I thought maybe he'd grown out of it because, you know, he was 15 when I first learned to hate him. But not so much. He's just a buttmunch with fame and money and nice lips now. (O.K., he had nice lips back in 1993, too).

Now Justin Long (The Mac guy, among other credits) on the other hand, is really, really nice. We had lots of mutual geek friends and every time I was at a party where he was or out somewhere and he was there too, he was always very sweet and funny and kind to everyone. I haven't seen him since he got famous, but I hear from friends that he's remained a nice guy.

Jimmy Buffet's music stinks...

I've never liked John Mayer

and, I don't really know enough about Justin Long to have an opinion either way...so...I'll just believe you guys and like him

Okay, another story about an actor who, even though he's spent his career building his imagine as a "nice, regular" guy, is really an a-hole...

A different friend of mine (this is starting to sound suspicious but, trust me, it's true) is an interior designer. A woman who used to work with her moved to CA (they remained close, though) to start her own business there. One of her clients, Tom Hanks, turned out to be the client from hell...really...a nightmare. I guess he and his wife are absolute jerks and they treat everyone who works for them like dirt. Very sarcastic and mean. WTF?

Re: …

Oooooh, he screamed at my college roommate because she asked for his autograph while he and his wife were eating dinner somewhere in Virginia.

Sure, she shouldn't have interrupted their dinner, but there was also no need to scream at her.

I thought maybe he was just having a bad day. I guess not.

I also know first hand that Martha Stewart is a complete psycho-***** (long, complicated story that involves breeding our Himalayan show cat with one of Martha's pedigree males and our cat having the audacity to give birth to a kitten with a WHITE PAW), but that's not really news to anyone.

Michael Bolton is a really nice guy. My mother was a private nurse for a lady who lived in the same neighborhood. I would go with her to work quite a bit, and if I was outside when he went jogging in the mornings he'd always smile and wave. Also, I'd see him stop to pick up litter if he saw any. And best of all? He and his daughters would bring cookies over to the lady my mother took care of. The lady always referred to him as "That long haired fellow down the street." She had no clue that he was (at the time) a huge star.

Of course!

Hey, my sister...the one who lives in CT...has some Martha Stewart stories that are unbelievable. Apparently, nobody messes with Martha. I guess she does the "do you know who I am?" thing...a lot.

Yep, pretty much if the dreaded "do you know who I am" comes out of your mouth, I hate you.

I'm not surprised at all that Tom Hanks is a douchenozzle.

Charlton Heston? AWESOME. Totally awesome guy.
Cal Ripken? Super delicious awesome with the blue eyes from God.

Also, the wrestlers in the late 80's early 90's from WWF - super dreamy. All of them, to a man, were polite, kind and super nice to fans when they went through the airport. With the exception of Cal Ripken Sr's Orioles, the other sports teams were total bastards. I was an airport security guard, so I had to interact with them.
