Re: …
We had a terrible turnout here. I don't know what everyone in the neighborhood was thinking. We were one of the only houses with the lights on. Not very welcoming. I feel sorry for one of the families up the street. The husband/father is a gym teacher at the middle school and, apparently, someone doesn't like him. He had some pretty nasty words sprayed onto his van. Jerks.
Anyway, you'll be excited to know that we DID have an older boy dressed as Obama. Oh...yea...that was thrilling...not!

Re: …
It was pouring rain here, so I thought for sure I'd be stuck with a giant cauldron of candy. But, we still had given it all (12 pounds worth!!) away by 7:30. Our neighborhood is about 95% families with kids under 10, and the rain was not a deterrent.
I didn't take my kids trick or treating. Our church did a trunk or treat on Friday night, and then the YMCA had a trunk or treat Saturday morning. They had plenty of candy after those two events so I didn't feel bad. Besides, my 10 year old really got a kick out of sitting on the front porch and giving out candy (and eating a bunch when he didn't think I was paying attention).

Ha! Your 10 year old and my husband would really get along well. Hubs got a kick out of putting on his werewolf mask and sitting in one of the porch rockers. Gee, too bad no one really got to see him.

Re: …
I carved several pumpkins. I have to... I usually do 2 or 3 "regular" Jack-o-lanterns and one special one. The special one turned out really well. It was a ghoulish face done in relief and it was quite eerie. I kept testing how it looked when lit down in the basement...so I could make sure the carving was deep enough and I got the effect I wanted, and my daughter had to leave the room. It was creeping her out. The face was awesomely evil, if I do say so myself. Too bad only a handful of people got to see it...oh well, we enjoyed it.
