Nothing but high standards for me. And some day, with much dedication and practice, I will be the guy who shakes the martinis.

I used to have one of those monkey makers when I was a little girl...

You heated up this little oven thingy and cooked the rubbery monkey goop in these cool monkey shaped tins. emoticon

That's cool. That reminds me of the shrunken heads made of apples.

The only one I had like that made "glass" flowers, They were kind of cool though, I experimented with the stuff and got all kinds of effects, of course they have probably found out now that it was poisonous or something because I can't find it for the neices etc ( really for me to play it with them) The boys had the ones that made the bugs & stuff

Don't laugh but I made some of those shrunken apple head witches last year (for Halloween, of course). I still have them. They have teeth made out of grains of rice...

I said don't laugh :chuckle:

Believe me...they're nothing to be jealous of. They got a little moldy.

Yeah...the heads are easy. All you do is peel and core the apple; carve the eyes, nose and mouth (make sure to exaggerate the features because they shrink when drying); soak the apple in lemon juice and then rub it with couse salt (making sure to get the salt in the hole left by the coring); put the little grains of rice (for the teeth...maybe not a good idea for the birds) in the mouth and hang to dry in a warm, dry place...eventually, they'll look like little shrunken heads. They can actually look pretty convincing but you have to remember to use large apples if you want to keep them for decorative purposes. I suppose it won't really matter if you're hanging them out for the birds.

Oh, and after the heads are dry make sure to add tufts of hair. I use twine that has been separated and teased...

the birds-rice thing is an urban legend. Rice doesn't expand in the birds stomach, it passes through too fast and without enough heat to cause it to expand. Plus there isn't enough fluid to effectively 'cook' the rice.

YAY! The kids will enjoy this.

Would be a fun Thanksgiving project to do on a string with cranberries too to put out for the birdies and squirrels with popcorn to decorate the outside trees for Christmas. I did that with the Neices and Nephews one year when they were little enough to let me. The popcorn and Cranberries thing. Now they are all too big to play like that

 emoticon

I've got the cranberries, so alternate with shrunken heads. That's very holiday-like!

So what about the Alka Seltzer tablets and seagulls? Is that a myth, too? Do I have some returning to do at the drugstore?
