Beating Your Dogs

Note: This incident did not occur at a MSGDA sponsored event. MSGDA, NAHRA and HRC expel a handler from further participation if unsportsmanlike conduct is observed on the part of the handler or if the handler kicks, strikes or otherwise manhandles or intimidates a dog while participating in a club sponsored event. It is our duty to report the expulsion of a handler from an event to the NAHRA or HRC regional director for additional action.

IF THIS SHOE FITS.... WEAR IT !!!!!!! IF IF DOESN'T THEN LET ME VENT.

Why do we as dog owners and organization allow people to literally abuse their dogs while attending one of our events?

Is it that we are afraid to say something? Afraid to offend the person? Afraid to lose a sponsorship? Just don't care?

I'd bet it's because "it's not my dog."

I do not claim to know but about 2% of what there is to know about training dogs, but I do know that healing sticks are attention getters and for "reinforcement", not TENDERIZING in preparation for the grill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like "tenderizing" your dog and it breaks on you from the line.... Well, maybe it's because it's trying to get away from your sorry a**. Not trying to go get the bird.

If your dog is not healing properly, then you step into it or pull it to you. You don't kick the S**T out of it's head. I'd stay away from you to, if I knew at any moment I was going to be kicked in the head or chest.

I formed an accurate opinion of this person last year when I noticed that EVERY one of his/her dogs cowered at EVERY movement that was made. The dogs did exactly what they were told to do. Not out of love for what they were doing or their master, but out of FEAR.

It is easy to tell when an animal has been struck repeatidly. It is head shy, cowers and constantly looks over its shoulder for the next blow to come.

A timid dog doesnt cower, it submits.

Now I have not read every book on training dogs, but I can assure you that not one of them advocates tenderizing or kicking your dog.

You all know Duddy and how he is. You all know how I treat Duddy. He is my best friend. Maybe I treat him too much like people but...... who cares? He has never been struck. He has never been kicked. AND yet he still manages to do well. He is calm and collected. He is steady not out of fear or intimidation. He does it because he loves it and me.

Yes, I use a heeling stick, and an E-collar, but he is not AFRAID of them. Why? Because they are used the way they were meant to be used.

I know that all but a few of you love your dogs as much as I love mine. You would never intentionally hurt them. So I ask the question again.... Why do we tolerate this abuse?

For those of you who are asking the question.... The answer is... Yes I did make an indirect comment to this person, and the abuse stopped at least for the moment. Next time I'm afraid I'll be a bit more direct and shove that heeling stick where they will have trouble sitting down.

I have intentionally not mentioned this person's name. However, one on one, privately I would be more than happy to share.

I love our club, the people and dogs in it. BUT I personally, cannot be around such behavior any longer without there being something done about it.

Thanks for letting me vent

I think if something such as this is witnessed at a event either a licensed event or at a picnic training day then it should be immediately reported to those running the event either a judge or club board member. That way the situation can be taken care of right then and there. I know for a fact that no club up here will put up with this at any of there events but it is hard to deal with it if nothing is said right after something like this is witnessed. Thanks for letting us know of these issues out there hopefully we will all learn something from this.

I am going to agree with Kody on this. I believe I know what event you are talking about, and I can say that unless a person who witnesses something this hideous comes forward to the people running the event, nothing can be done. Please, please, please, in the future if you witness abuse, tell the people in charge immediately! We will not put up with that, and there are measures we can take to ensure that the offender is unable to enter club events..

I would really like to talk to you about this issue since I am on the board that I think put on the event based on the date of your post... Please pm me or email me..
