Part 1..Qaudrephenia 81
Saturday morning starts with a cold wind blowing in off the council football feilds a dog barking and his owner whisling on his way home.Jimmy turns and opens his eyes,straight in front of him on the wall is a picture of a PX125,White and in the background a sunny beach.
Today ids the day that Jimmy takes possesion of his new scoooter bought on HP from Turners on the High Street.It's been a long time coming,saving the deposit and talking his grandad round as gaurentour for his monthly payments of £19.50 a month.With a delivery time given between 10 and 11 oclock Jimmy has plenty of time to put on his new clothes that were prepared the night befor in anticipation of this great day.
Hanging over the door is his new two tone suit but first goes on his favourite white Fred Perry shirt,new white socks and underpants.Befor he reaches for the suit he pulls a box from under the bed with a pair of new size 7 Jam shoes.No sooner had he dressed himself like a soilder going on parade then his mother shouts from the bottom of the stairs,"Jimmy there's a van outside,it must be your new moped."
Jimmy fly's down the stairs and is in the street befor the mechanic has unloaded the new Vespa onto the road,befor Jimmy can take possesion he has one more signature to do befor he can start the next stage of his teenage years .
The mechanics shows him were to sign on the clip board and hands over the keys with a full tank of petrol ."Thanks mate!" Jimmy replies and with a smile and a handshake the van drives off,leaving Jimmy alone with his scooter.

As he turns the corner into Oakleaf Drive he is rudely overtaken by the battery powered milk delivery van. Blinded by rage, Jimmy fails to see the Stop sign at the junction to Beech Drive and flys off his new scooter when hit by the widow Jones from No.7 in her modified Cortina MkII. The Lambrettas song of the same name goes through his mind as the lights go out.

On goes the helmet and first kick the engine fires up.Jimmy moves off and onto the main road ,heading into town were he is expected at the bush shelter cafe later in the day.At first he feels for the scooter but each change of the gear up and down relaxes him and all he can think of is his new found image and what he must look like to all the people who pass him by.As he stops at the lights a middle aged man glances at Jimmy from his Taxi Cab and recals the days when riding was about fun and not work.He shouts to Jimmy,"Why a Vespa and not a Lambretta?"Jimmy replies,"No one reason just that Turners on the High street only sell Vespa's and nearly all my mates have them."The lights turn green Jimmy turn left soon enough and the cabbie continues on,not long now befor Jimmy reaches his destination and parks up his scooter in a near by ally a short distance away from the cafe.Jimmy pulls his scooter on it's stand and looks either side of him were a line of scooters are parked side by side.Of comes the helmet and Jimmy sets of towards the cafe were his mates have been waiting.
One of his freinds see's Jimmy befor he gets to the cafe,"Did you get it!" crossing the road to meet Jimmy answers,"It's parked up with the rest down there,i'll be along shortly with the rest.When he reaches the cafe he notices Steff just making here selectoin on the Duke box and befor he can open his mouth ,Selecter singing,To Much Pressure begins to play."Hi Jim did it come then!"walking straight past him and planting herself on a table fool of mods Jimmy Replies,"It's parked up with the rest,lets go!"Immediatley theres the sound of wooden chairs screaching on the flooor and the scuffle of heavy parkas being pulled of the back of the chairs onto boys and girls backs.
Ten set off towards the parking speck six boys and four girls.Steff walkes beside Jimmy and shows him here new Specials album that she had bought earlier in the day."Later on when weve all viewed your Vespa you can give us a lift home and we can listen to this in my house."Jimmy Replies"Id'e like nothink more Steff but i hav'nt passed me test yet and i need to buy a set of L plates for me scooter."Steff looks at Jimmy and gives him a questionable look that slighty confuses Jimmy,"Well if you can ride all the way here without those stupid plates you can go that little bit further and take me home on your scooter."Jimmy looks her straight and replies,"lets get there first Steff,you haven't even seen it yet..well see!"
