They were from Doncaster - my band, The Threads, were briefly signed to the same record label and used the same recording studio up in Yorkshire (Driffield). I remember the label manager opening the garage door and it was full of Gents albums that he was trying to give away (unsuccessfully).
They were a really good (and professional) "live" act but irritated a lot of us on the scene as they would also play nightclub gigs where they covered Madonna, Wham et al - whereas those of us in bands who lived and breathed the scene (and still do) thought this to be Mod blasphemy of the highest order!!!
In retrospect I think that they were just trying to make a living out of music without having to have the dreaded day job!!!

Yeah, I said no thanks on that one...
I still wake up screaming at night thinking about what I called the Engineer of that studio. lol...

One band that had nothink to do with the mod scene but produced one of my fav songs of the era,"staring at the rude boys"..The Ruts who in there short time befor the death of the singer made some solid albums.
