Re: Fav Punch-Ups at Band Gigs Eskalator at the White Hart, Southall about 1982. They were nice enough to bring a coach load of skins with them from Southend.
Re: Fav Punch-Ups at Band Gigs The Eskalator (rumour has it with a young George Michael) turned up at the White Hart with a coach full of skins...I don't think any of them were brave enough to come in. I don't think the band played a single note before somebody announced there was a coach load of skins outside and the rest of the night was a running battle (massacre) except for Shirley who got arrested almost immediately.
As for the 4 Skins...I was at the White Hart that night as well..we got a police escort out of Southall...but a certain poster on here will be able to enlighten more..as he was a band member
Re: Fav Punch-Ups at Band Gigs I was at one of JJ Burnells (Stranglers Bass player) solo gigs in Derby years ago.
A guy kept shouting out , asking him to play Stranglers numbers and JJ had continually told him to shut it, as he just wanted to promote his solo stuff.
But the guy wouldn’t stop and in the end he just flipped, put his bass down and jumped in the crowd. He actually grabbed him and started kicking the S**t out of him!
Once he’d finished, he got back on the stage and carried on.
Never seen anything like it before or since.

I saw a secret Stranglers gig in 78 where a fight broke out on stage after a stage invasion as the band were playing. Burnell just stepped into the middle of it as if a bunch of kids were fighting and stopped it with a few pokes and pushes.
Re: Fav Punch-Ups at Band Gigs He's a black belt at something or other JJ, remember seeing a documentary with him banging the hell out of his shins with a bottle.
--- I love things, I do my best, I eat, sleep and laugh and cry just like the rest, what becomes of me is meant to be, so I'll just groove along quite naturally....

Re: Fav Punch-Ups at Band Gigs An old work mate hailing from deepest Norfolk saw the Stranglers at West Runton pavilion years ago and reckons JJ had a row with some fella who kept spitting and chased him down the seafront halway through the gig...
