Re: Common People - Britpop The Story
Maybe Dave E could enlighten me. I am sure he know the Dog/Mustard boys from Thamesmead.
The reason being that these were the boys that I followed into the Mod scene. Not as a band as my friends older brothers and thier mates.

Didn't Dave manage Dog for a bit. My memory may be slipping...
Did Bryn have stint with them too?

Re: Common People - Britpop The Story
I was indeed managing Dog for a while, a band I'd go so far to say should have made it with the amount of talent they had, vocalist Dave Bassey being blessed with a voice reminiscent of Marriott/Winwood/Burden. Dave ended up in the reformed Dodgy (check the LP Real Estate and single Feather Cuts and Monkey Boots). I always likened them to the Stones in '65 with someone who could sing.
Dom and Phil from the Clique played a couple of gigs with them and were all set to join around the time the Clique were almost signed to One Little Indian.
Dog also lead me to meet Reggie King from The Action, Paul Newman was auditioning to join on guitar on the night they brought Reggie to my local.
They did eventually change their name to Mustard (and for about two gigs Orangewood 64). Sadly they didn't get to release any thing though I do have 4 recordings on a dat tape which I did get cut up on acetate (may sneak a track into the set on Sunday at the 100 Club).
Darren Russell took some great photos in the west end one day, we borrowed a load of clothes from Jennie Bellestars short lived shop in Hanway Street, I shall dig them out soon and post them on my myspace page.
Bryn played on Subjaggers lp around that time, the only other band that could give Dog a run for their money at that time.
As for Graham Day, Dog was the name of the first 10 inch EP released on by his then band Planet.

nice one Bik.. i have a few Clique singles.. were they the Jukes (? pretty sure that was their name) previously ? I saw them once or twice I think.
Phil Otto and Paul Newman were in the Jukes along with Nick Agadino and Toski.

Re: Common People - Britpop The Story
I remember thinking bands like Blur and The Charlatans somehow revived a bit of the old mod scene in their own way but the media made Mod seem a dirty word so BritPop became the expression to replace it.
Certainly woke me up from a period of no music.I remember just stopping listening to any for ages...cos nothing excited me anymore. Then suddenly there were all these bands I liked agaian and they were good old British bands singing about what it was like to be English...sort of woke me up from a long sleep.

Re: Common People - Britpop The Story
I think Pulp were, and still are pretty amazing, I love all of there stuff. Common People is the only 12" vinyl I own.
Of course, Jarvis has pretty much abandonned the BritPop scene altogether now, shame.

Will let you know when they are up on the page, will try and sort it for next week. Also have some great live shots from the Amersham Arms and a few from The St. Johns Tavern. Colin Bradford was a great guitarist, saying that, Matt Thompson weren't too bad either, think they were cousins?
Matt always reminded me of Charlie Watts. I always remember Webbie in a long leather mac smoking gear from a clay pipe! I take it you knew Garth aswell Jay? I gotta get in touch with some of those guys, had a lot of fun with them, great days indeed. Would love to see that band play again.

I see Dave quite a bit so next time I see him I will pass on your hello's. If you want to PM me your number Dave I will pass it on for ya.
