Two brilliant things I've heard lately: new material from Big Boss Man (Hammond groove, wah-wah guitars, a hint of reedy revival-like horn), and a band who contacted me about playing Rock'n'RollSoul, Danny Connors & The Ladder (proper chunky R&B in an Edgar Jones/Little Barrie vein).
Re: Recommended music from recent or current bands.... Yeh Pennington, have to agree with you there. Big Boss Man ARE brilliant! Hammond-tastic... although why anyone thought of naming a large organ after such a diminutive Top Gear presenter beats me!
Here's the Black Hollies. They're one of my favourite bands from the last few years. They have a new album out called 'Softly Towards The Light'
