I like many different accents, don't think there are any I don't like. Although I found the Northern Australian habit of throwing "but" onto the end of every sentence to be annoying. e.g. "Its a lovely day, but." But, what??? But its gonna rain soon??? You can't just stop halfway through a sentence!
As someone mentioned, the habit of raising the voice at the end of every sentence, so that it sounds like a question, is incredibly annoying, but its not really an accent. As soooo many kids (the world over) seem to be doing it.
Oh, and a few years ago Mrs H & I were sat outside a motorway service station in France, and I was trying to work out what language the two guys at the next table were speaking. Definitely not French, or German. Maybe Italian? No, that's not it. Flemmish maybe? No? Not Dutch. It took me a good five to ten minutes to realise they were speaking English, with really strong Geordie accents
Well I had terrible trouble when I visited USA once with (who I call) my 'posh' mate who is from Kent - seems nobody understood a fcuking word I said - I got so fed up with hearing " Excuse Me?" ...in the end I gave up and just got her to do all the ordering at bars/shops and restaurants!! I'm from 'saarf' London by the way!

Re: ACCENTS.....bEST wORST and ...iN -bETWEENERS
When we went to New York a few years ago, the Black people there couldn't understand a single word I said!
My Mrs is Black, and our accents aren't too different - she's N. London, I'm Essex. The first time it happened I got really annoyed because I thought the bloke perhaps didn't like that we were a mixed race couple, and so was doing it deliberately, as he understood Mrs H perfectly. As the week went on I realised there's something about my voice that makes me unintellegible to Black New Yorkers. Maybe its just too deep for them?!?

Shake some - don't worrie sweetie - I was talking about the accents I don't like! It doesn't mean I don't like the people! I just can't bear the welsh accent even though I once snogged a welsh bloke - hope that's cleared that one up ahem! I'm sorry but the Aussie accent jsut really grates on me but I still fancy Shane Warne!!!! Shane is GORGEOUS but I don't like his accent!

I would have had the same thoughts as you in this case... still I always like to state that 'I' am the English person and I speak the queens English ...still didn't get me any further with them tho!

Re: ACCENTS.....bEST wORST and ...iN -bETWEENERS
strange old topic eh? Oh did I do a bit of antipodian there? eh?
every bloody sentence eh?
however, i love the kiwi accint (say it properly!) especially on girls. I had a Kiwi PA a while back and she did the voicemail message on my mobile and work telephones. My mates reckoned it was the sexiest voicemail they'd ever heard and used to phone me and hope I wasn't there....
nothing changed there then!
The aussie accent I read recently, is a hybrid of South Essex and Irish in it's original form. Basically because the first fleet population was mainly from those two area's.
I can't stand all the london kids trying to talk in Gangsta rapper style. drives me nut's man innit..
The accents on coronation street really grate I'm afraid, the manc whine drives me mad. bit like that 'orrible sarah cox.
I don't know that I'd trust somebody with an accent less or more dependant on where it's from...that just shows poor people skills.
anyway..."cor blimey guv'nor, just orf fer a cuppa rosie lee" "link yer elbows? Step in time"
cheerio..

Re: ACCENTS.....bEST wORST and ...iN -bETWEENERS
Seeings as it is just accents you can't stand i'll fly in the face of controversy, i can't stand the "London" accent, it seems to stretch from Oxford to Southend and from Northampton to Southampton.
To elaborify slightly, our old drummer ( who was born and bred in Bournemouth ) used to sound like he was from the east end of London, all cor blimey guv'nor and all that bollox, drove me f**kin mad.
Oh and before some of you jump down me neck, my missus is a Londoner, as is er bruv, and some of me bestest mates are Londoners, just don't tell em....?
