Beyond the Sea (4*)
Kevin Spacey portrays singer Bobby Darin in this biography. What's noteworthy is the scope of talent displayed by Spacey - he does all the singing himself (sounding as good as Darin) - and is a darn good dancer, too. There were some dance sequences that'll make you smile. Darin had a tough life growing up in New York - and it was short as well; he passed away from a congenital illness in his late '30s.
While Darin was never a star the order of Elvis or Sinatra, Spacey worked hard to make his life an intersting story, and succeeded. Spacey framed it as a conversation between Darin as an adult and Darin as a child - an interesting if somewhat strange twist to bio-pics, but watching Spacey was worth the ticket price itself.
