Ben Roethlisberger Crash

If you don't already know, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger was involed in a serious motorcycle crash today:

Here is what the Post Chronicle has to say:

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been injured in a motorcycle accident today. According to a published report, Roethlisberger was riding his motorcycle on Second Avenue near the 10th Street bridge in downtown Pittsburgh.
Police say the accident occurred just before 11:25 a.m. Big Ben was apparently not wearing a helmet. Police have reportedly closed down the bridge, Second Avenue and the Armstrong Tunnels.

A witness told Channel 4 Action News that Roethlisberger went over the handlebars, hit the windshield of another vehicle and then hit the ground. The eyewitness reports that Roethlisberger tried to get up, but was bleeding from the head.

Roethlisberger was between radio interviews and on his black 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa. According to reports, a silver Chrysler New Yorker with damage to the front passenger fender was removed and Roethlisberger's motorcycle was loaded onto a flatbed.

Big Ben was then taken to Mercy Hospital. There is still no word on the extent of his injuries

Roethlisberger was in serious but stable condition Monday afternoon, Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital said before surgery, reports the AP. "He was talking before he went into surgery ...He's coherent. He's making sense. He knows what happened. He knows where he is. From that standpoint, he's very stable," Jones said

Steelers president Art Rooney said the team was "encouraged by the early reports from the medical team" at the hospital. "I am sure Ben knows that we are praying for his complete recovery."

In only his second year in the NFL, Roethlisberger helped guide the Steelers to the Super Bowl championship last season.

Ben has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet when riding.

Shortly after Kellen Winslow's motorcycle accident, which forced the Cleveland Browns tight end to miss the entire 2005 season, Steelers head coach Bill Cowher expressed concern over his own star player's infatuation with the bikes, reports FOX sports.

Three words come to my mind...

1. Arrogant - He refused to stop riding even after Cowher and teammates urged him not to.

2. Inconsiderate - He gave no thought at all about the possible consequences to his team that depends on him.

3. Stupid - Who rides a crotch rocket in downtown Pittsburgh without a helmet ???

The accident might not have been his fault, but his actions were preventable.

Arrogant, Inconsiderate and Stupid - Not the qualities I am looking for in a role model.

Just my two cents worth. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET !!!
