Re: Indoor track ideas
You should go for it. If you need a track designer go with Gonzalez, he's good. I'd take my shot at designing a track like that too, there's all kinds of crazy stuff you could do. The NBL people are good but i'm not sure if they could do anything new with a building like that.

Re: Indoor track ideas
SO SORRY to send anyone to the old Platt building to look at the property. I sincerely hope no one drove from other states, or from very far away, or wasted time or money viewing this building since Rick already said it was too small. I apologize to all the "people" who have been calling Rick to see what my problem is, because I keep on talking about this Platt building, however, the building will not work and so again, I'M SORRY.

Re: Indoor track ideas
???
What does anyone think about Emsworth the area? Does anyone have feelings about the neighborhood one way or the other?
Is anyone familiar with an old railroad engine house in Emsworth? It is round, and has been vacant for a long time, there is a dirt floor and ample parking....so as long as the area is acceptable, we could see.......
I will Google Emsworth and look at their crime rate, etc.
Rick hasn't seen it yet, so don't go look, I will know more about it later.
Good Day

Re: Indoor track ideas
Hello everyone,
I have seen some of your posts on the indoor track and I really like the idea. I don’t know of this would be of any help but there is an a building about a 2/10 of a mile off of route 30 in Forest hills that might work. It is an old Builders Surplus Store. The building is for lease and it is about 110,000 square feet of space. Outside there are 600+ parking spaces. The floors are not dirt but I don’t think that really matters as dirt would have to be hauled in to construct the track. I would assume that bathrooms, air conditioning, heating, etc... are all in place. If someone will get back to me, I will get more information. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t.
No one will probably recognize my name and that’s ok. I recently started racing again after a 7-8 year absence to attend college and graduate school. I always wanted to help promote Pittsburgh BMX and I think now might be that opportunity. As many of you know, USA Cycling only recently adopted BMX as part of their program. Until now, the BMX link on their website was directed to the NBL. In addition, USAC recently hired Doug Martin as the director of BMX Programs. These accomplishments demonstrate the USAC’s commitment to BMX in the 2008 Olympics. Through my schooling and travels, I have made a few connections with the USOC and USA cycling. I don’t know if anything will come of my recent inquire to my friends within the Olympic organization, but its worth a shot, right. Pittsburgh has always had some of the best talent in BMX, but unfortunately, some of the worst weather for year round training. I would like to help change that situation with addition of an indoor track/training facility.

Re: Indoor track ideas
I could throw a rock and hit the back of that place from my mother in laws house! That would be big enough but rent would probably be a killer. There is an empty mongomery wards here in Charleroi but I never thought about it until now. A location like that would be big enough for a skate type park too.

Re: Indoor track ideas
im not sure if anyone has ever been here but there used to be a place in ohio buckeye bmx i think it was called it was in an old horse barn they had no room what so ever but they made it work the track was very tight but that just makes you better with turns so i think that the one building would be perfect
