I should try to communicate in some way, I'm not sure how I would react if I did get a tap on the shoulder. If I'd be a bit spooked, or feel like something incredible just happened.
My wife was the one who first brought up the thought of the wife passing in the house. She's always said not to let the youngest one know, he would spazz. She also thinks it could be her brother who passed 20 years ago. He was young...had a bad heart but a nastier drug habit. She thinks it may be him checking on the kids. When her oldest son was younger...5 or 6 he'd be talking in the bathroom to 'The Man' or he would sit up in bad and look right through my wife, and talk to 'The Man'
He'd be saying things like 'Yeah...I'm alright' or 'Mom's OK' So she figured maybe it's her brother.
I'm not good in this area, but can spirits follow you from one home to another? If that is true, then maybe it could be Brian.

Yes, spirits have been known to follow people around. Especially if it is a family member. They will visit you often, and where ever you are.
But, if it has to do with a haunting.. (which I don't think that's it in your case, or you would be experiencing ALOT of activity).. but, if it is, they usually stay in one certain area. Like a house.. or a spirit could be attached to a certain item.. like a vase, painting, jewelry,.. etc.. If you only noticed activity after purchasing something like this, I would consider that.
But, I am more inclined to think you have a visitor.. kind of like what we experience.. only random things every once in a while.
I believe it is nothing to fear, but it is their way of letting us know they are still around us.

I think you hit the nail on the head on that one. What I think I'll have my wife do ( Does this make sense? ) Is have her document dates things happen, to see if there is some type of pattern. The only thing that would worry me, is if the spirit caught on...and ceased the activity. None of us are really scared or upset..curious. Her side of the family is all very peaceful, except when they start drinking and I doubt the spirit would show up drunk.
Am I right?

That is a good idea, I think that might tell you a lot. Make sure you include phantom smells.. sometimes you'll catch perfume, or something that can associate you with a certain "someone". I know my grandpa came to visit once when I was a kid when I got a whif of moth balls.. (my grandmother would freak over bugs..)
Oh, just a note.. activity like what you're experiencing does not necessarly mean a "ghost". Spirits.. who are content.. and have made it to the other side, can also let their presence be known. But most of the time, they cannot produce activity like that of a ghost, because they are further on the spiritual plane. So, just because you experience things, does not mean your loved ones are stuck "earthbound".

Mothballs? That would be a unique odor for sure. Your Grandmother sounds like my wife....anything with more than 4 legs or more than 2 eyes sends her over the edge.
You may be on the right track too with the spirit. Bob & his wife both lived here all their lives. They built the house in the 60's...the first ones on this street. I'm sure she was very content before and now. And we've only improved her home, not trashed it.

Over Christmas my wife took pictures at her sisters house ( She's afraid to fly...don't travel in snow...so she didn't go to Wisconsin...The flight would have put her over the edge ) She took one picture that has an orb, fairly good sized, and right in front of her sister that shows up better than any I've ever seen. It's very obvious it isn't a glitch in the paper...it's a digital pic, and none of the others had it, which takes away the lint / dust probability. I'd post it, but I doubt she would appreciate her family being put on the web.

I can understand that  It is possible that it was a true orb.. or what people believe to be "true" orbs.. Did you notice a defined circular pattern? Or a particular color?
Also.. just because it wasn't noticeable in the other photos, doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't dust or lint.. I have recreated some photos just messing around, smacking the carpet, cat hair.. etc.. and I can't get them to look like what I've captured.. BUT, if I snap a shot and quickly move my camera.. sometimes the rest of the picture is blurry, and I'll notice what looks like orbs, but what is really dust.. (snow, mist and rain also gives false orbs)
BUT.. how can you really know for sure..? I think that is why a lot of paranormal investigators really stray away from the topic.
I believe that if you've experienced strange activity, OR if it is some kind of event (birthday, holiday, etc.).. you are more likely to capture an orb.. From the one's we've caught and believe them to be "true orbs", they are usually all pretty circular, with a defined circular pattern of some kind, and (but not always) are colorful.. yellow, red, blue, and orange are the ones we've captured. If it's white.. and still has a circular pattern, it could be an orb as well..
Hope that helps.. zoom up on it as far as you can see without distorting it, and see if it has that kind of pattern.. (digital cameras are known for picking up LOTS of orbs too..)

I also wanted to mention.. if you, or your wife.. stand in a doorway of a room, and hold the camera above you and snap a few pictures of the entire room, sometimes you can capture them that way too.. if you're having strange things go on in your home, I would defintley give that a try.
Most people take pictures in their home of up close subjects, and don't really think about capturing the entire room.. who knows whats over in the corner? Or underneath the coffee table.. (caught a few there myself!) 
Oh yes, and pay attention to Fred.. animals are a true giveaway.. !
