Birds

This might be a suitable place to post this..

I've noticed over the course of the last three weeks, or so.. thousands of black birds in our backyard, and around our neighborhood.. I am talking THOUSANDS! A good friend of mine, made a joke about it being like the movie.."The Birds".. ( as she was running towards her car emoticon ) lol...

I've lived in this same area for over 6 years, and have NEVER seen this many birds, over this amount of time..
I know with the change in weather, birds migrate, and so forth.. but this is downright unbelieveable..!

We took a ride into town this evening, and did not see the amount of birds that seemed to be in our neighborhood, anywhere else.. we just found this quite odd, and have been trying to do searches on their behavior..

Just a little oddity to share with you..

My wife mentioned the same thing where she works, except she noticed pigeons. ( And thought of the movie as well ) I don't notice huge flocks of birds now like I did as a kid, I remember one flock was so huge it almost blocked out the sun, it was noisy..and darker, they flew overhead for what seemed 5 minutes...but was probably 30 seconds or so.

One more thing... Crows. Have you ever seen them 'Hold Court'? I never have...but this one old guy told me about it once, I never forgot it. I'll describe it better tomorrow...but in the mean time...if you know anyone who was raised in the country...and is 70 or over, ask them about it once.

Animals are so amazing!!

No I've never seen that.. but I raised chickens as a kid.. (would actually sing them to sleep..!!) We had a rooster that would do some pretty amazing things to impress all the hens.. (one in particular) he would actually dance around her flapping one wing.. was very funny..

The birds outside, they are just unbelievable.. they have been out there for so long.. it really is quite freaky.. they are loud too.. but they seem to not care if we are out there and make noise.. the only time they seem disturbed is when the door is opened.. or if we clap.. (which I showed my friend.. probably why she bolted for the car..LOL!) we can hoot and hollar, and it doesn't seem to bother them..

Re: Birds

What this is basically, Say one crow messes up in the eyes of the others in the group/flock. They all get on the ground, form a circle around the culprit crow, and cackle & caw a few minutes. If all goes well for the one in question...he flies off with the rest. If he's not so lucky and found guilty, they fly off leaving him there.

I've heard this from this old Norse guy.. ( Old means he still boiled his coffee....that had to be wicked strong )

aww.. poor little thing.. hehehe.. I love watching animals..

Actually, my mom was telling me this evening that someone at work told her about something scaring the starlings up north.. and they've headed south.. (which normally they would head south for the winter) emoticon

She said she didn't know the whole story, and thought she was pulling her leg about it anyway.. but maybe that's what they are.. I'm not exactly sure..

Maybe they were taking a pit stop on the way down... emoticon
Tonight it's in the 20's and I don't hear them out there nearly as bad..

Wouldn't it be cool, if we were as sensitive to the enviornment and surroundings as the animal world is?
in reality, if that were true...we would probably been long time extinct. I just think it would be a neat little added feature....our hair gets thick...we know it's going to be a nasty winter. Our eyes water...going to be hot & sunny. Pretty cool when you give it thought. We probably had the ability at one time...but lost it.

Hmm.. something to ponder.. emoticon

I think we are somewhat sensitive.. but nothing like animals.

As for the birds.. I thought they were gone, but not yet.. still out there chirping away! I can't believe how long they've hung around.. I took some pictures the other day, a storm was coming through, and they were flying in every direction.. you can't see by the pictures the enormous amount there were, but you can get an idea..

OK...You win.... That's a lot of birds. Would be nice though...if they were wild turkey or pheasant though, could have some good eating too. Takes way too many Black Bird to fill up anyone.

But really, I wasn't expecting quite that many birds. It's been years since I've seen so many in such a small area. Shell... Don't park your car under them emoticon

hehehe.. hard to avoid, they're everywhere.. but one thing is strange, you usually won't see that many, only hear them.. and if you startle them, that is the only time you see them, they are usually hiding up in the trees.

They even scare my dog at night when I take him out, it's so quiet, then they all flutter and start chirping.. (of course, that's not saying much.. jack's scared of everything.. he'll even jump when he's eating his food.. poor little guy.. hehehe..)

Freds not quite that bad ( At least not when food is involved ) but he has his moments for being skittish about his surroundings. Then...at other times you would think of him as Cujo. All from a 12 pound dog.

Back to the birds...I bet they are hungry and expecting you too feed them all. I wonder how much an 18 Wheeler of wild bird feed would cost?

You should record them... the audio. That would still be better than Rap.
