i love the topic of space.
trying to wrap your mind around infinite distance is extremely difficult.
what is this dark matter that is floating around out there. i dont think anyone really knows. maybe its the spirits of all the dead exploring the universe....

Re: dark matter
How I remember it, It was on "Universe"
5 Million years from now when our sun is at the end of it's life cycle and Novas, it will vaporize our earth, and solar system as it is now. Along with pretty much everything else in the area, And continue on into the cosmos until it sputters and burns out.
I'm not describing it right, I tried to get the video they showed on "The Universe" but couldn't find it. I did though, find This.

I love the topic of space too.. even though it's almost impossible for me to comprehend just the basics... I found a couple of good websites that may be of interest.

Re: dark matter
Anything along these lines fascinates me. I love all the colors from deep space...the hubble pics.
I have one question maybe one of you can answer. And I hope I word it right.
How do they percieve/calculate size or distance? What I mean...take pluto for example, What used to be considered a planet. They have never been there, how could they estimate how small or big it actually is? I mean...What if in all reality it's actually 1000 times bigger than they actually believe it is, And what if it would be a million times farther away? How do they actually calculate this stuff?? Or is it all assumption?
How do they know a planet or body is made up of what it is said it is made up of? Maybe it has a gaseous atmosphere, but below that it's very earth like?
And, being the skeptic I am...How can they say life can't exist elsewhere? Maybe they should say that life as we know it couldn't exist elsewhere, but that can't be entirely true neither. Maybe life as we know it in a natural state. But add a bit of technology and life can exist anywhere. Perfect example is the moon. As-Is life couldn't exist there as we know it, but add some equipment...and it can. Supposedly we've been there...and they all came back. Supposedly.
