Intro
Thanks Shell, for adding this one. I am hoping it will get a lot of traffic. If one of our readers or members has a question about something they can post it here and maybe one of us, or a visitor has an answer to it. I just think it's a good idea, I've had questions many times that I can't find the exact...Specific answer for.
For example, How do I layer images in Adobe Photo Shop? I've done it in other programs, not Photo Shop.

Re: Intro
I am still learning all the in's and out's of photoshop myself.. layers was something I learned by playing around with it.. masking is something I still can't figure out..
One thing you need to remember is keeping your layers window open.. if you're not sure where that's at go to the photoshop toolbar and click windows>layers, and make sure it's checked.
Before starting anything, I make a background copy (If I'm using a photo), and work directly with it instead of my original background.. (just in case) in p.s... go to layers.. duplicate layer to make a copy of your background. In your layers window, you can see where it says background copy.. which should be right above your original.
You can make blank layers by going to layer>new>layer. You can then do all kinds of other stuff..
I'm probably not the best at giving a tutorial but there are many, many tutorials on photoshop. I would have been lost without them!
Most of them are basic for whichever program you're using. Here's a few links about layers:
http://www.photoshopessentials.com/basics/layers/
http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/layers/Layers.htm
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/bllps505a.htm
Hopefully some of these will help. I know a little bit, and may be able to walk you through.

Re: Intro
I do appreciate any help I can get. I remember the first time I opened it up...I thought uh oh..I need help. There is just so much you can do with it. Once I totally understand it, I think I'll be okay with it, but right now it is totally overwhelming.
Thank You for the tutorials...and any future help too.

Re: Intro
That's my step son, he wants to continue his education after his June graduation in some type of video/graphics field. He's good at it...very good, And I think he found his niche in that area.

Re: Intro
It's probably one of the best carrers to pursue.. I would love to see my daughter get into graphic arts.. she's really good at it.. and my son is like your step son.. he's 12 years old and is already thinking about colleges that teach video/graphic design.

Re: Intro
I wish they would of had all this neat stuff when I was getting out of school. I may have done other things with my life. Our computer was a shared one in the Library, It had a 3 or 4 inch amber/green screen And did very little, Windows was not an option back then, Just DOS. There was no 5 1/4" floppy..or anything close. Once done with your session...everything you did was gone.
Now..they have so much neat stuff out there, and we only know a portion of all that is available.

I know what you mean.. I remember those days.. We didn't even have an option of using computers until I was in my junior year. Now they teach them in Kindergarten.

On the brighter side of all my skeptical thinking, think of all the cool technology your Grand kids will be part of. Now...that I think is pretty awesome.

Re: Intro
That is a cool concept.. but technology can also be the wrath of mankind.. If we progress into something more united and figure out a way to use it to really better ourselves "together" then we will do okay.. otherwise if we use it at the rate we're going.. my grandkids probably won't have much of a future. Too many people use technology as a weapon, and that's not good for future generations..
