Final Major Project What are we all thinking of doing?
I've not completely decided yet but I'm thinking a radio series.
I really enjoyed doing them and I found it easier than Prose which was painful - like pulling out teeth as they say. I always thought that I'd write a book but I don't honestly think it's for me.
Chris Dows recommended Non-Fiction but unless I can come up with a subject I'm really interested in then I can't see myself doing it.
Re: Final Major Project Prose for me. I've set myself a target of 3,000 words a week or the summer so that I'll have more than just the 30,000 words by the time we graduate; hopefully I'll have a full book. Best laid plans...
I'm in the third week of my regime and so far I've hit the target. Actually I have a thousand words to go for this week, but I should manage that.

Re: Final Major Project I've got most of it planned out in step outline (doing script) gonna attempt to write up some scenes by the end of this or next week. Perhaps tonight.

Re: Final Major Project Al, have you talked to Eamonn about the Prose FMP?
I was reading the handbook for the third year (on our discs) and it says that Prose must include the first chapter. But I know that you already handed that in for the narrative theory assignment.
Has he said that you don't need to hand in the first chapter? Or that you can have it as an appendix?

You also have to be careful about submitting duplicate copies of the same piece of work for different units, although if the assessment criteria are markedly different this can be considered acceptable.

Re: Final Major Project I have spoken to Eamonn, I told him that I was using the first 8000 words or so for Narrative theory; he didn't say that that would be a problem. In fact he was very supportive and said that if I produce 60,000 words then we can use the best 30,000 for the FMP. Appendices weren't mentioned but they would be a sensible inclusion. I'll bear them in mind.

Re: Final Major Project Congratulations, 40,000 words is a great landmark. Of course, from there it gets more difficult to keep control of the actual writing because it's harder to remember the minute details of your earlier writing.
However, I find the best policy is to plough forward regardless and see how it comes out at the end. Then you can rewrite. And rewrite, and rewrite and rewrite... oh what fun.
