Yes, but is Bay in tune with them? His shtick is looking very 1990s nowadays, and looking at my A Level students as an example today's teenagers aren't really interested in what Bay has to say: they're more interested in the current glut of teen horror remakes and the so-called 'torture porn' movies (BLACK XMAS, HOSTEL, THE HILLS HAVE EYES). Bay's style of muscular consumerism is dating *very* rapidly, and his films are already at the stage where they look like near-parodies of 1990s action cinema; the TRANSFORMERS film really felt like a desperate attempt to revitalise his cinema and make it more accessible for teenagers.

I agree. The problem Bay faces, like all directors who choose to work in this area, is that the teenage demographic is very very fickle. What Bay has done is latched on to a certain successful template and is simply repeating it. This is suicide in terms of his desire for longevity as a director, although he's obviously made enough money to be more than comfortable for the rest of his life, so is he truly that bothered. I'm sure he's quite an intelligent man (although his films don't reflect this ) and therefore must realise that if he does not change his template, he won't last. By the way, don't even get me started on TRANSFORMERS...

Precisely. He's had a hand in producing some of the horror remakes (THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and, IIRC, THE OMEN), but I think he'd struggle to turn his hand to directing a horror film: I can't see him, as a director, ever leaving the 1990s yuppie/consumer action film behind and progressing into another genre. (His last two SF/action 'hybrids'--THE ISLAND and TRANSFORMERS--have already proved that, I feel.)
