Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
quote: I was wondering, could if I got the Shure SM58 Microphone, could I use an XLR adapter cable to be able to plug it straight into my Microphone Jack(the headset sized ones) to do my recording?
It's possible you might have problems that way without using an actual audio interface for the computer. The resistance is different signal wise. But I'm not totally sure.

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
I have the microphone plugged into an adapter thing. I don't know the technicals of what brand/model, but the microphone is a Shure PG-48 we found at an endcap in Best Buy.
But I'm using an adapter intead of a pre-amp, and it works fine for us.

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
Good, Better, Best. Never Let It Rest. Until Your Good Is Better, And Your Better Best.
Follow that with audio and you can't go too far wrong. I have a headset mic that doesn't seem too bad when I record tad bits for whatever i've done in the past, Creative HS-30, its worth about $35 when I got it I think (well £15 to £20) but I kind of wrangled the salesman in PCWorld to give me it free with the PC, that i'd got free upgrades on .. x)
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
Quick Tip when you buy a headset:
Look for something called "Frequency Response" for the microphone part.
You want the response somewhere between 75hz to 20khz if you can find it.
Some headsets (the cheaper ones) have 380hz - about 15khz. This results in losing all the crips highs of your voice, and leaving it with no "meat" because of the 380hz cut-off.

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
I bought a RockBand (the game) USB microphone for PC, on the off chance that it was also just a mic, and I didn't need the Game to make it work. It doesn't need the game.
It's works pretty well me thinks!!
I've recorded me singing a couple songs, and I liked the way they sounded!
It was $10.00. It is used, but who cares!!
$10.00!!!!!!!!!! How could I go wrong?!?!?!
Hooray for Rockband PC Mics!!!!!!!!!

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
Hmmm. I doubt that gives you much quality in terms of recording.
Specs?

Re: Tips: Recording Dialogue
I'll try to get them.
Like I said, it was used and didn't have ANY packaging.
I'll try to look it up online at work for you.
