Hammers of doom indeed. Empire that is my favorite Rogers set up..... 22,13,16. Big sound. (Photos of my silver sparkle Clev 22,13,16 is on the first page of this thread.) You can't say enough good things about a Rogers 22.

Silver mist! me too! I have them same color. Emperors on the heads and if you dont have the clip on mufflers or internal ones, I would go with Hydrolics top and g1 clears on the bottom for a 70's 80's rock sound as they were ment to be. IMHO

Re: Show us your sets!

On another member's (Daninflag) advice I bought Aquarians, which I have received, but not yet installed. Daninflag, like me, is displeased with today's Remo batter heads.

Roy Burns, ex Rogers endorser, is one of the owners of Aquarian. You can call and ask for Roy, which is what Daninflag and I did. Roy recommends Super 2 clears for the batter heads, Classic Clears for the reso heads and the Super Kick I (not Superkick 2) on the bass drum batter. Use your original Rogers reso on the bass.

Daninflag reports that he no longer needs damping (like a pillow) on the bass drum, nor mufflers on the toms. the drums project like they were meant to!

I use an Aquarian coated Z-100 for the batter head for most all my snares, and I love it.

Silver Metallic is a beautiful color. My first drums. Still have them.

Everyone has seen them before, but more silver mist..... looks real good.

Re: Show us your sets!

Thank you for the tips, i'll check the aquarian heads, I have a Super Kick II already on the bass drum but it reduces a lot the projection, i'll use the xp8 on a gig in a couple weeks and see what happens with a mic on it. i'll take some photos.

p.s. - sorry bout my english emoticon

I'm not trying to turn the thread into a head discussion, but I use Aquarian Response 2 clear as batter and classic clear as reso. on XP8 cali wine.
They have a wonderful tone that works for a jazz, swing, country and blues/rock.
I use same the outfit in all my band situations.
No tone dampening needed. I let 'em sing. emoticon

Re: Show us your sets!

It has been awhile, but I have been away in a foreign land known as "Gretsch". I was recently brought back to my roots by this beautiful Rogers Mardi Gras Headliner 20-12-14 set from the early 60's. The drums are all 3 ply, but I noticed that the Holiday snare has the sharper angle bearing edge. I recently replaced all the lugs on the snare with JP repros, I cranked up the tension on the heads and all I can say is that this snare smokes - I love the sound. The tom tom & the floor tom have a great deep/throaty? resonance and rich warm tone...only the bass drum sounds weak, but I think that is due the heads (they are original).
I may try Aquarian Superkick II myself, which I have on a Camco set - it made a huge difference on the sound of that bass drum.

I tried to update my avatar settings and for some reason that beautiful Mardi Gras Beavertail set shows up automatically on my post, but it is nice to look at too - it is a Constellation 22-13-16 with the matching Beavertail Dyna Sonic.

These are the only Rogers sets that I now own, but these are among my favorites.
