Rarte English Rogers Tiger Stripe

This is the set that Borsaida sent over from Sweden for me last week. He made a great job of packing so no damage in transit.

Don’t know what this wrap is called because it isn’t in the catalogues. “Blue Tiger Stripe Sparkle” would seem apt, unless anyone knows the correct name. This is 22,12,13,16. The floor tom has a serial of 104346 which would probably make it early 1967. English Rogers were supposed to stop production in 1967 and so far this is the latest serial number that I have come across. The chrome is all in great condition with tall hoops all round and no extra holes, or cracks in the wrap. The 22,12 and 16 are factory wrapped and would have been meant to look something like this like this…………………

Image

(that is a 20” head propped up in the drum as I’m too skint at the moment to buy heads)

Only seen one of these before on Winnie Mensink’s site
Winnie's Tiger Stripe

He has sold his now but apparently bought it in Birmingham at the Drum Fair.

The 13 appears to have been added later. It is professionally wrapped and the shell is exactly the same construction as the other toms and has a serial of 101828 and “Made in England” in Ajax’s usual format. That makes it a couple of months earlier than the rest of the kit. The shell is drilled for beavertail lugs and a USA collet plate (the holes on the English ones don’t quite line up). I don’t expect anyone but an Ajax dealer would have had access to the wrap so seems reasonable to assume that this job was done by a dealer who also added an extra collet to the top of the bass drum to make the kit look like this ……………………

Image

There is fading on the front of the 12 and the 16 but it isn’t quite as bad as this photo makes it look.

And this is how I would probably use it………………….

Can anyone help with an ID for the bass drum T on the right of this picture. I have eight of these that came with the kit and the other eight are a motley assortment, none of which fit the lug nuts. The one on the left is a standard English Rogers T.

Congratulations nutbox! That is a great kit. I love the finish. Can you shoot a closeup?

Hi Powertone
It was a dull day here yesterday when I took these photos. The wrap really does sparkle. Here are a couple more photos but they don't really show it at it's best.

Nutbox, Simply BEAUTIFUL!!! I made the bottom floor tom sparkly close up shot my screen saver. Glad that is in the right Rogers hands to be enjoyed and preserved. It needs to be in a Rogers Book somewhere...Nice!

Peace, Gary

Nutbox, you got the score of the year, for sure. That is absolutely gorgeous. I remember when you posted that link to Winnie's last year and we all ogled over the tiger stripe, wondering whether it was for real. And now you have one of only two known to exist. Good on ya!

Stunning! I am a sucker for sparkle finishes and that takes the cake. Too bad that isn't produced anymore.

And they dropped this finish in favor of solid (White-Black-Yellow-Red-Blue)...

Imagine what might be if the bean counters had not had their way!

Thanks you guys for your comments. I've not got back earlier as I just spent about 30hrs in the hospital with my 10 year old son as he broke his forearm. He got out of theatre about an hour ago with some metalwork in there, and it's nice to see his arm straight again. I'm pooped, off to bed.
