Re: Show Us Your Snares!
Hey Tommy, looking rightly happy on those drums.
Mike for me has managed to put down the way I feel about these drums. It is the history and our own connection with that history.
I initially thought that starting again after so many years that this time maybe I should get myself some genuine USA Rogers drums but actually the thought left me cold. The English Rogers when it comes down to it are a copy. But wheather they are better or worse for that is not the point. They are the ones that do it for me.
I have even sold on my beavertailed kit now without even batting an eyelid because now I've got my B&B kit.

The other week I found this. Mardi Gras a la English Rogers. Not seen one of these before. There was a floor tom too, but I got out bid.

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
Alan, are you saying, then, that you have an English B&B mardi gras kit?

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
I wish!
No, Tommy, just one drum so far, and that hasn't arrived yet.
But I'm patient and I'm not going anywhere, the others will turn up.

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
Phil and Tom, Thanks.
The Dyna was found complete and cranked. That was a mid restoration pic. The bottom drum in the picture is a Wildwood III(orange) Powertone. I've only seen flat grey Dayton or speckled white Dayton interiors in the Powertone WW snares. Rare birds.
Alan, Very cool -English Mardi!
Peace, Gary

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
New Arrivals.
Ludwig Acrolite Black Galaxy. Came perfect, tuned rather lousy, but I fixed that in short order. Did not need new heads, cleaning, or even a wipe down.
Ayotte Drumsmith, maple with re rings, very thin shell. Sounds great. Warm full bodied snare sound Joy to play. I had one of these before. I regretted selling it before it was even in the mail.

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
Nice job on some nice snares Ploughman! I played on an Acrolite a few weeks ago and did not like it at all. But, if I could get an Acrolite Black Galaxy like that for 64 bucks and had the time to work on the tuning...who knows, lots of cats like 'em.

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
Oh Boy! Very, very nice.
Once again, I am at a loss for words, as I've never really smacked anything that didn't have a Rogers logo on it.

Re: Show Us Your Snares!
I always thought acrolites sounded like crap. Because I remembered them all sounding like crap.
I picked up the first one I had for a kid in the church that was starting beginning band, and the parents werent inclined to support the kid with the rental. But in the short time I had that drum in my possession, I realized....... hey, these dont sound so bad. So I bought another. And it eventually went away with some kid whose parents coudnt afford the rental.
This makes the fourth Acrolite Ive had now. So far none of them have been a turkey. They tune well, they have a decent sound, and they can be made to play into any style sufficiently enough to be that "go to " snare drum for someone on a tight budget. I think anything being sold now for 250 and below in the retail market, would have a tough time beating the comparable performance you could expect to get from the Ludwig Acrolite, purchased on the Used Market. My Rogers are superior drums, both in sound and performance, but they are also drums I care very much about, and am quite concerned about dragging to unnecessary places.
This one has an Emperor Coated top, and an Ambassador snare side. About 1.75 turns on top above finger tight, 2.125 turns on bottom AFT. It plays decently well out to the edge, with more sensitivity in that area the closer you get to the snare band. Really nice ring with great snare sensitivity from about two inches of the hoop, back to a solid full snare sound at center. I think this is capable of great control and finesse.
