Re: Show Us Your Snares!

Rino,
That is one beautiful snare drum and I think one rare snare too! I got a Mardi Gras Dyna Sonic from my friend (guitar player in our band), who got it from the frontman of the band he played in in the 70's.

He originally was a drummer and had bought the set with the Dyna Sonic new back in the early/mid 60's. The unique thing about that set & the snare is that they were all beavertail lug drums. The bad thing was that sometime before my friend was in that band the original owner decided that the badge & the script logo did not look cool and he removed them from the Dyna Sonic.

Fortunately I had a mint original condition COB Dyna Sonic from the same time period. I say this because the COB had all the same hardware parts that came originally with the Mardi Gras Dyna Sonic that is the all chrome clockface strainer, standard height hoops, square head t rods, black felt muffler pad, and the heavier beavertail lugs. Jack Lawton transferred all the hardware including the badge onto the Mardi Gras Dyna Sonic. The hardware that was originally on the Dyna Sonic was in poor condition, I have kept what originally came on the drum in a bag.

But this is what it looks like now. The wrap is original and there are no extra holes And we are pretty sure that the badge #5134 is close to what was orginally on the drum sometime after beavertail lugs came into use and before the elongated strainer - between 3500 - 6000. There is another person with a beavertail Mardi Gras Dyna Sonic and his badge is #7162, it has the beavertail lugs too, but his has the later version elongated strainer.

Anyway, your drum is a beautiful and rare Dyna Sonic. That is my favorite drum wrap. BTW, I think you are right on the date late 1961 or early 1962 for you snare.
