Re: English Built Dynasonic
Hi
I have been looking at the various topics as regards English Rogers with interest.
Eddie Ryan who carries out drum renovations and has his own website initially worked for Ajax (Boosey & Hawkes) until he set up his own business in the very early 70's. If this is correct then he will have almost certainly have knowledge as to the English Rogers and how they were made. I have never contacted him but it occurs that he may be a good point of reference. I will see what I can find out.

Re: English Built Dynasonic
I have an English Rogers kit with 13x9 tom and 22" bass drum. Check my photo on welcome page! Can anyone give me an idea on the correct name for the wrap finish on my kit? Cheers!

Re: English Built Dynasonic
Hi Thefunkydrumma
Looks a nice kit. Did you buy it off E-bay recently as there was one up for bids?
If you check the posts you will see that I also have an English Rogers and it will have the same wrap as yours. I have had the kit from new having bought it in the mid sixties. At the time it was, I believe, referred to as Blue Ripple Pearl ((or even Blue-Grey Ripple Pearl) although as it has aged it has become slighty more grey. At the time all I could obtain was a Rogers American catalogue which I still have and this particular wrap is not included. I do not think it was produced in the States and I'm sure Nutbox or someone else will confirm. The nearest there is in the catalogue is Steel-Grey Ripple Pearl. They also did a Wine-Red Ripple Pearl in the USA.
Do any of your English drums have serial numbers printed on the inside shells? I'm sure that this is something Nutbox will be interested in!
To all you other guys out there sorry I have been a little low profile recently but I have been on holiday and I have not been able to speak to Eddie Ryan as he is now on his hols!! Add to that several gigs and rehearsals and life as been frantic!
Hope to get some photo's on board soon.

Re: English Built Dynasonic
Swivomatic,
I did buy it off e bay but it was October last year when i got it.I got the dyna in march once again off e bay but i believe it had come over from chicago. Apparently it was owned by Roy Haynes. It's serial is 26036. Does that date it around '67?

Re: English Built Dynasonic
Hi Funkydrumma,
Great kit. Both you and Swivo have 22,13,16s, but these sizes are quite rare in ER. The wrap was officially Grey Ripple. You will find it listed in the ER catalogues on this section. It was available from about 1962 I think.
Can't help with the dating of your Dyna as it is US. If you ask that question on the Q&As section then someone might be able to help. If you have serial numbers stamped on the inside of your other drums that is a different matter - these are coming out quite accurate. Without these numbers we can say that your kit is 1965-67ish (as it has beavertail lugs).
Cheers
Alan

Re: English Built Dynasonic
Hi Guys!
Sorry been out of the loop again and only just had time today to check out the ROF. Been gigging here there and everywhere and a lot of travelling.
I'm actually going to see Eddie Ryan in the next week or so and will see what other info I can obtain. I know that Nutbox has a few unanswered questions.
I'm going to take Eddie's advice on having my ER kit renovated as after 40 years of gigging, and although still in good condition, I think the old girl is due for a re-wrap. ER kits don't fetch a lot of cash in the UK so I can't see that it will be detrimental to the value. The present wrap I am told is no longer available but a black ripple is....or maybe white pearl? I'm leaving it with him whilst I am off abroad again.

Re: English Built Dynasonic
Hey Swivo, how ya doin'.
White Pearl always looks good and would keep it looking somewhat authentic as this was a wrap that Ajax used back then. Get asking those questions, still lots to find out.
I found this the other day
Original ER bass drum head with only a few dents and a slight scratch to the logo (fixable), no big blister in the middle, never been used as a batter head. Rare, rare rare! It even still has tyhe Everplay Extra logo still intact. 20" so no good to you. This cost me a packet (not) £8 that's about $18 I suppose.
