Pets - Miracles do happen
hey guys,
ive got some really great news that i thought would be great to share with everyone...
in may last year (so 12 months ago now) we moved house. after two days my cat (tabby - photo in pets album) ran away. we spent weeks searching and putting up posters and everything, but never found her. mum and i were totally devastated as we have had tabby since 1995 - she was given to my grandma as a birthday present from my brother.
2 days ago we got a phone call. "hi, my name's Lauren and i think i have your cat here"
i went outside and saw my other cat was sleeping in the sun, so i was extremely confused. i responded with "are you sure?" and she has said "yes, her name tag on her collar says 'tabby' and its got your phone number on it"
i COULD NOT BELIEVE my ears. in 12 months tabby had made her way back to the old neighborhood - she was at our old house!! where has she been for the past 12 months??? who fed her?? how did she survive??? and if someone was feeding her, why didn't they phone us before?? i have no idea!
the moment she saw me, she came running over and tried to jump into my arms, like a dog!! she remembered me after 12 months!! its AMAZING!!! shes a LOT lighter and thinner, so i took her straight to the vet. he said she was totally fine, did some blood tests and everything!!
this is absolutely incredible and just wanted to share my joy
xoxo

Re: Pets - Miracles do happen
Amazing, Christina! I am so happy for you. I had a friend whose cat returned after 7 weeks. She too had gone to their old home. But 12 months! Astonishing! Thanks for sharing this lovely story. It's nice to have good news.

Thanks Patty
I still really cant believe it! ive heard of stories of them coming back after 1 or 2 months... but not 12!!
does anyone have any ideas as to how to make her realise this is home now? we're scared to let her outside in case she runs away again but shes bored with inside already.

Re: Pets - Miracles do happen
That's a fantastic story Christina! How wonderful that tabby came home to you.
I think it maybe a few weeks before she adjusts so you may need to keep her inside during that time.
Here are a few links that are worth reading. Hopefully someone will come along and reply with first hand experience.

Re: Pets - Miracles do happen
thanks val!
the mistake we made is that we didnt prepare her AT ALL for the move - didn't do any of those things it suggests. i guess i should have been more prepared!
going to keep her inside for 3 weeks i think....
so far have been taking her outside on a harness and letting her wander around, get used to the surroundings a bit, but every time my other cat comes with us, she goes crazy. gets all tense and freaked out! and then theres a lot of birds around and other dogs too, which she doesnt like either, and ends up jumping back up into my arms and clinging on for dear life. god only knows whats happened to her over the past 12 months.
i think we just have to make sure she knows this is home and she is safe here
