Re: Weather in Ausatralia

Thanx for the update Val. I'm glad to hear some good news.

I'm still in shock about the whole thing really, but it is very real.....I can't believe the amount of devastation.

I am going to donate to both Red Cross and the RSPCA shortly. I wish like yourself there was more I could do. But I have to commend all the volunteers and all who are involved in the effort. My prayers are with all........

Thanks for the update Val
Pleased to here your family are safe & your relatives managed to save their properties.
I always think about all those who work long hours to try contain the fires. I didn't actually hear all about any of them losing their lives.
Hopefully it will not take too long to re-build the towns & the communites will grow again.

Re: Weather in Ausatralia

The irony is that the top end of Australia is getting loads and loads or rain with most parts of Qld flooded the past few weeks. Many people there have been suffering for 3 weeks with no letup. When I watch the morning tv shows, it's always wet in NSW as well.

We have the complete extreme at the southern tip of Australia with no relief from the drought expected for a few more years (as if 10 years wasn't long enough!).

I will be adding a few bottles of water to my shopping this week for emergency.

The authorities have been warning us for a week that these bush fires may effect our water supply and the threat is increasing.

That's all you need!
Saw some of the Memorial Service on tV last night. See our President was there. He's on an official visit to Australia, but 2 Maltese were among the victims.

Re: Weather in Ausatralia

agh no!

New fires have broken out of control in an area of my brothers new house! The entire area is under threat of embers and a house has already been lost 2 streets down.

I can't believe it's happening again.

The only good news is that my brother is away on holidays and not there, bad news is that there is no-one defending the house from ember attacks.

Apparently, it's absolutely panic in the area as many residents are on the roads trying to get away.

omg, I just saw it on the news, it's huge. I just can't believe it and I can't believe that it has to be just down the road from my brothers new home. We need rain, lots of it, no more heat and no more wind and no more fires! The next 2 hours are crucial but it's all bad news at the moment as firefighters have been injured and this is near the Dandenong Ranges and Lysterfield Park which is all high fuel areas. It started as a small grass fire. agh, I'm so upset, scared and angry right now!

The fire is still going but it is under control at the moment and the residents were allowed back this morning. I don't really know if my brothers place suffered any damage as yet but the reports seem to be positive.

There was mass confusion last night with only 1 major road in/out with loads of car accidents as people panicked, ran red lights and crashed into each other. It's really horrid to think we still have another 6 weeks fire danger period with hot weather and northly winds scheduled again for Friday. I know that I am feeling drained and frustrated with all of this madness, I can't imagine how those in the path of these fires are feeling.

I know that I will pack and leave with the dogs if a fire breaks out my way as I am only 2 blocks away from a fire danger zone as well, even though this is supposed to be suburbia! Residents were discussing the possibility of this happening on abc radio last night.

emoticon Abit of rain at last! Today's rain was good, not great, but good emoticon

I can't recall when we had rain, sometime before Christmas but not sure how long. All of a sudden, the air smells clean and crisp and the strong smoke smell and dust have gone for now.

What a delight walking through the local native park with all the wonderful scents from the leaves from plants and trees!

They say there will be more showers over the next few days. I hope they are right as that will pretty much put out the last of the uncontroller fires from February 7 and we can delight in a cooler and hopefully a very wet autumn!

emoticon After weeks of fires and smoke and finally some welcome and rare rain two days ago, tonight, I experienced my very first earthquake in Melbourne! 4.7 it was.

I didn't feel to much movement but I heard loads of rumbling and a bang and the dogs went wild.
