Re: EPISODE DISCUSSION(screencaps and discussion about the show)
Since I seem to be one of the only people who posts here that hasn't seen all the trailers (I wanted to be surprised), I watched the show pretty much without knowing much except the basic premise. I was amazed at how poised Mark was and how polite and sincere he seemed once he got over the shock of meeting 40+ women as actual dating candidates. I tend to think of Mark as the guy who can't get through an interview without a thousand "ums" and "ahs." He's great on camera.
And I was really surprised to see that a lot of the scenes from upcoming episodes were shot in my home town, Long Beach (the 1st episode was in L.A.) I can't believe I missed seeing any part of the shoot, as it is right by where I live! Kicking self for being unobservant about what was going on in practically my own back yard! Anyway, it will be fun to watch even though I thought the premise was stupid at first. Seeing the personal Mark has been rather surprising after mainly knowing the tennis Mark.

Episode 1 recap
Buddy TV
Age of Love - Season One, Episode Recap
June 18, 2007
Episode Rating: *** (3 stars out of 5)
Episode Overview: Tonight is the premiere episode of the latest "social experiment" dating program, Age of Love. Tennis star Mark Philippoussis will meet and date a group of women, The Bachelor-style, but with the distinct difference of having two very different age ranges: women in their 20's (Kittens) and women in their 40's (Cougars).
Episode Highlights:
Mark meets the first set of women - the Cougars - and learns about the twist in the show.
After he's recovered from that, he starts to relax and gets to know the women, and has his first group date.
But the Kittens are on their way to mix up the dating pool!
It's the first day on the show, and today is the day that Mark - and the Cougars - find out about the special twist to the program. The seven older women arrive and get to know one another first, and they quickly realize they share another demographic besides being single: their age. As one of them puts it, "No little teeny bopper girls in this group."
Host, Mark Consuelos, aka Mr. Kelly Ripa, arrives to show the women an introductory video about Mark Philippoussis. In the video, after a review of his success in the tennis world, Mark admits he was a bit of a playboy in his past but that he now feels like he has sown his wild oats and is ready for a real relationship. He says he was so depressed this past Valentine's Day that he went and got himself a puppy. Now what straight woman could resist that?
Not our Cougars, they are impressed, although they wonder if this thirty year-old guy likes to date older women.
They are about to find out. The women are now able to meet with Mark one by one, poolside in typical reality show fashion, and they share with him their age and a little about their backgrounds:
Angela - a 40 year-old freelancer who has been married twice and has a 21 year-old son.
Jayanna - a 39 year-old mortgage officer, she was briefly married in her 20's.
Jodie - a 46 year-old business woman, she was married once and has a seven year-old son.
Kelli - a 40 year-old legal secretary.
Lynn - a 40-year old make-up artist.
Maria - a 42 year-old photographer who was briefly married a while ago.
Jennifer - the oldest of the Cougars, she is 48 year-old woman in terrific shape. She is the executive assistant to the owner of the LA Lakers.
After each woman is introduced and announces her age, Mark seems more and more confused and flustered. He doesn't seem to know how to react, and granted, it's an unusual situation made more so by the women each directly telling him their age, but of course, he can't really comment on that. He's put in an awkward position when Jennifer asks him to guess her age. He safely guesses 36 or 37 but you can see the terror in his eyes. She kindly lets him know she is 48, then asks if he has ever dated an older woman. When he says no, she asks if he would like to, and he wisely says yes.
Once the introductions are completed, he has the time to speak with the women more informally, and he starts to loosen up and become more comfortable. He finds himself discussing children and marriage, which, he says in interview, is a rather surprising topic for a first meeting. Kelli feels she has a little advantage here, as she is one of the women who hasn't been married or had kids which she feels "ages" a woman. Way to sell out your fellow Cougars, lady!
But it's inevitable that even "wiser" older women would succumb to some of the usual dating show stuff, and there is a bit of tension when some women are perceived to be "stealing" away Mark or getting too much of his attention.
Mark says in an interview later that he is impressed with the women, likes Jennifer's passion for her career and Maria's good vibe. As he relaxes and become more comfortable, he says he starts to forget about age. And, as he points out, he's always dated younger women but that hasn't worked out, has it?
Mark Consuelos arrives to bring the evening to a close, and warns them that not all of the women will have the chance to have a date with Mark prior to elimination.
Later Mark C. talks one-on-one with Mark. He points out that Mark is an active guy, so this first date will be a good chance to see if the women can keep up with him. And after the date, Mark will have to make an elimination.
Mark calls to the apartment, and asks Jayanna, Lynn and Maria to go on the first date with him. He says he picked Jayanna because of her personality, Lynn because they haven't really spoken one on one yet, and Maria because of her eyes and smile.
The date will definitely determine who is adventurous, as it involves rappelling down the side of a twelve-story downtown building. Jayanna is a little concerned: she is afraid of heights.
But that's not all there is to be afraid of. Meanwhile, the Kittens are readying themselves to meet Mark. Unlike the other participants, they have full knowledge of the age of the other women...and little concern about it.
The Kittens are...
Tessa - a 23 year-old executive assistant who calls herself "deathly hot."
Lauren - a 27 year-old lighting consultant, who announces she is not worried about the older women.
Megan - a 21 year-old college student.
Mary - a 24 year-old healthcare provider, who declares simply that she is hot.
Adelaide - a 26 year-old Editor of Esquire, who says men naturally want to date younger women.
Amanda - a 25 year-old financial planning assistant from Tennessee. She is wearing a big giant cross, and shares the very compassionate statement that when she is forty, she hopes she isn't still dating, because it's "pathetic." Nice.
For now, though the Cougars just have that big building to worry about. Maria and Lynn rappel down no problem, but Jayanna is scared and it shows. However, she pulls it off, and Mark is impressed by her performance.
Later, after the Cougars return to the house, it's time for eliminations. Mark calls up again, and asks for Lynn, Jayanna, Jodi and Angela to come down to the pool. He says he hasn't had enough time to find out about all the women, so he has some questions for them.
He speaks with Angela first, asks why she was so quiet. She says that actually she has a big personality and so didn't want to overwhelm him right off the bat. He replies he's a big goof himself so no worries there. He asks her to stay.
Next, he asks Lynn about her heart pendant she was wearing. Is someone waiting for her at home? No, she says, it was just a gift for her fortieth. Satisfied, Mark asks her to stay as well.
He speaks with Jodi next. He tells her they had a great conversation but he mainly sees her as a friend not potential partner, and so she is going home. She's disappointed, but happy to return to her son and that she demonstrated how beautiful and powerful an older woman can be.
That means that Jayanna will stay, and Mark says again how impressed he was with her overcoming her fear of heights.
After they leave, Mark C. returns and tells Mark that his world is about to get a lot more complicated, and his dating pool? A lot younger. Then a curtain drops, revealing the Kittens posed a la Pussycat Dolls.
And that's it! A big tease this week, there will be no Kitten vs Cougar action until next.
So what do you think? Is Age of Love just a sensationalist gimmick or a sensationalist gimmick with potential for showing us some interesting aspects of human nature? And - with Mark's dating history and all the teasers shown where he seems quite happy at the presence of the Kittens - do you think the Cougars really have a chance with this guy? Let us know your thoughts about Age of Love in the comments below.

Re: Episode 1 recap
The few previews that I've seen, this first episode looks like lots of fun.
Mark seems abit confused and still comes across as a sweetie!
Did you both enjoy the show?

Re: EPISODE DISCUSSION(screencaps and discussion about the show)
I will have to say that it was a good show! I had a laugh at poor Mark when he found out how old they were! I think I rather see him with an older women! I mean he even said that he dated younger women 10 years younger than him

Welcome icstars7
I think its one of the more interesting reality - dating shows around. Of course, Mark makes it far more interesting!
This show will be more appreciated by those that love reality tv.

Re: EPISODE DISCUSSION(screencaps and discussion about the show)
Thanks to lovely torrent wizards ive watched the episode and enjoyed it. I think the first few weeks are going to be a bit bumpy.. with so many women the focus will be on the catfights. But from seeing what starts to happen towards the end looks really interesting. The was eeven a small glimpes of Mark dancing!
I think if NBC focussed more on the emotions and positive interaction between women it would'nt have been recieved so badly... i think the fact it's produced by men who have know clue how to appeal to the female viewers is the problem.
I really felt sorry for Mark at the start, stunned would be an understatement... but he held it together and got over it pretty quickly. So typical for him to take the wome rapelling down a building for a date!! I look forward to next week... 2 words scudders - POOL PARTY!
On my site i have added a re-cap of the episode in screencaps here
