Your Davis Cup Predictions?

Although DC isn't an ATP event, it seemed to fit better here than in other threads.

So now that the first day is finished, did anything surprise you? Which teams do you think will win?

Here are my not-so-bold comments and predictions:

I thought Haas played great (especially the serve--and his strategy) but looked extremely thin. If that helps him play his best, great. I am afraid I will have to pick Croatia to win the tie, however, unless Ancic's illness worsens.

Too bad for Blake against Berdych, but TB hits so hard, and moves very well on clay--very impressive. And this isn't really on topic but I think TB and Lucie Safarova are a very cute couple. :-) I like the US team's chances simply because the Bryans are such a good team, and I think the US can win one of the remaining singles. But I don't have a lot of confidence because they are on clay.

I was very surprised to see that Hewitt lost today.

I'm mostly impressed with Sweden (shock horror, me being happy about sweden emoticon ..) getting up 2-0 against Belarus emoticon
Thomas Johansson beat Max Mirnyi in straight sets!

Yep, I´m also surprised that Gonzales lost... but I don´t really care since thanks to that terrific tie I got to hear Safin speaking in Spanish (with an Spaniard accent), it makes me go weak at the knees emoticon

I haven´t been surprised by Argentina going 2-0 on the first day or losing the doubles match, yet I´m very happy Cañas won his match, it´ll do wonders for his confidence going back to ATP level tournaments... I was a little nervous about him losing and then struggling for confidence.

Unfortunately, I just get to see the Argentina tie here, I can only get snipets of the other ties if I watch Sportscenter or something like that.

But I´m particularly interested in Chile-Russia and Germany-Croacia.

I was really lucky this weekend, as I got live coverage of Germany-Croatia, Switzerland-Spain and parts of Austria-Argentina.

Switzerland-Spain promised to be a great tie, but unfortunately without Roger and Rafa it's not that attractive anymore. And sadly of us Swiss, Wawrinka injured himself in the last DC practice on Thursday, so our chances were almost zero. But I think we still fought well and of course, congrats to Spain.

Tommy Haas played very well today against Ivan. Congrats to Germany on making the quarterfinal, I think they haven't been in a quarter final for a couple of years.

I am very happy for Canas too, that he is back and that he won emoticon And Juan Martin del Potro plays well, too, I am sure he has a very bright future.

The match I would LOVE to see most, is of course Gonzo-Marat Safin. This is a classic!!

And I see that Sweden just won, congrats to them emoticon

Hi, Corina, Tommy did play well again today, didn't he? Congratulations to Germany. Congratulations also to the US team and all of the other teams. I wish they were all on TV.
