A satirical comment on the inattention to tennis in the US
While we're waiting for Mark to return, you might laugh at this. Too much competition for TV air time here!
Federer
The Onion is hysterical. And I am really disappointed that we have no live coverage of the Memphis final :-(.

I hope Roger has a sense of humor. Human Pong. I love it.
Sorry you missed the Memphis finals, Marcia, but looks like Tommy did a good job. Since the Las Vegas tournament this week is sponsored by The Tennis Channel, I imagine you'll get to see that. Our stupid cable company still refuses to carry TTC so we'll be relying on your reports. Even if Mark isn't playing, I wonder if he'll attend the tournament anyway. Maybe we'll see him in the audience.

Re: A satirical comment on the inattention to tennis in the US
Thanks, Patty. From the looks of the statistics, Tommy's serve worked well yesterday. Too bad he is going to Dubai rather than Las Vegas. Sure wish we would get a Mark surprise there.
I am sorry your cable company still isn't carrying TTC. Frankly, I wish I knew what was up with TTC. Their advertisers continue to be get-rich-quick-scheme websites, sell-your-timeshares, buy $5000 of life insurance, etc. rather than major national companies that might pay well for good demographics, and they continue NOT to show live tournaments that we all wish we could see. It's a vicious circle--if they don't show even the little tournaments, they won't have the viewers to attract the advertisers and get carried by cable, but if cable doesn't carry them, they can't get the viewers and without the adv. and cable $, they can't afford to cover the tournaments. They did show the women's Dubai tournament but there are so many men's tournaments going that we never see because TTC isn't covering them and it is nearly impossible to find them on TV schedules, if they are shown at all, even with the web to help. There are SO many tennis players in cities like yours and mine, that I just can't believe that with the right promotion and management TTC would be so close to the edge. I realize it is complicated, but we have two HORSE RACING and SOCCER channels, for heaven's sake, in addition to those covering the major sports, here! I can see poker players on at least three stations practically any time I turn on the TV!!!!
OK, enough of my rant. It is just that I am so puzzled and disappointed that TTC is still in this state and that the USTA (and ATP) also seem to not "get it" that they need to make it EASY for fans to watch tennis when they are not playing, if they want to build the sport.
