USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
Go USA! For US Scudders, Roddcik vs. Tursunov is on "Versus" cable network, now. Andy is now up 2 sets - 0. (had to misspell it due to censors' misreading!)
The tickets sold out in about an hour earlier this fall and the crowd is making a lot of noise.
They are playing with an unlimited # of challenges. It should be interesting to see how that works out.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
It seems we have delayed coverage here with the same results you posted 3 hours ago
Enjoy the tennis!

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
Its been annoying having to wait months for this Tie too come around, however now that its here the wait seems worth it, it would be great too see Russia go back-back, especially by beating the USA in order too clinch their 2nd consectuive Davis Cup Victory, however I do think it will be very unlikely that that scenario will take place. Anyway go! Russia.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Safin and Davydenko were in form. Youzhny (who I think is one of the best players around, if only he could be a little more consistent) really gave Blake a go. With Blake's history of having trouble keeping it together mentally in the 5th set, I am sure quite a few fans were nervous when he was broken when serving for the tie in the 4th set. The US has not won in the US since the last final was played there in 1992, and the team is desperate to win. This is a strong team and the members really seem to like each other and as one of the papers pointed out, neither Andy nor James will likely win another major singles title, so winning the Davis Cup means a great deal to them. It is great that the Bryans have a chance to play the deciding match today, if Mike's elbow injury has healed--usually the doubles players have to keep the team alive, then a singles player gets the glory the next day.
Go Bouncer twins!
PS Val, I won't post any more results, since you have delayed rather than live coverage.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
I didn't catch the susbsequent rubbers but it was all over very fast!
Well done to the USA team for a convincing victory in taking out the Davis Cup.
I do wish they would change the format though. It seems unfair that the players have to play in early December and virtually do not get a break from the season begins again around December 30.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
Seeing as so many top ranked players play in Davis Cup Finals, I think they take a few weeks off now, then they play the Australian summer, then they take a bit of time off after. Rod**** and Blake have played little tennis in the last few months, so they should be fresh, thats my oppinion anyway.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
Congratulations to all the players, captain, coaches, trainers, who have contributed to the US team over the year! ! Everyone looked so happy. It's nice also for captain Patrick McEnroe, who never had such a big victory as a player (and now achieved something his brother didn't! ).
The hard surface really benefited the US team, especially with no Marat on the other side. I couldn't understand why the Russian captain did not play Tursunov in the doubles and Davydenko in the singles. I guess the captain must have hoped that Tursunov would be in his zone on Friday, in which he can be very hard to beat, and if he won, then the strategy might have changed.
I'm sure all the players are looking forward to some time off and then some nice warm Aus. weather in January!

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
This was a nice win for all the Americans! So great to have these guys get the big prize! I think Pat Mac has done a great job for Davis Cup for many years and he deserved this special moment.
I believe the thinking behind playing Tursunov was that he's had a win against Roddikc and Davydenko had not. But I also think Davydenko has some residual problems in his head over the gambling scandal or whatever it was. He just doesn't seem like himself.
Anyway, it was a good weekend for TV.

Re: USA vs. Russia Davis Cup
Hi, Patty, . That would be reasonable, even if it didn't pay off for the captain.
What did you think of John McEnroe's recent remarks about possible pressures on Russian players?
