Roger F. still looks sick to me.
Comcast FINALLY deigned to show us one more tape-delayed match from PLO. It was Fish vs. Federer. I don't want to take anything away from Mardy's great play and his win -- he's always had the talent and just needs the consistency -- but Roger simply did not look as if he was feeling well to me. His movement and reactions were very uncharacteristically slow. People I have known who had mononucleosis took much longer than he has taken off to recover. I can't imagine that he is getting anything but the best medical advice possible but I really hope he is giving himself enough time to really overcome this illness and is not worrying too much about the #1 ranking or about the clay court season. If anyone else saw it, what did you think?

Re: Roger F. still looks sick to me.
Yes, I agree, Marcia. We saw this match twice and both times I was surprised by the number of errors Roger made. It seemed like he just wasn't set up right, which is uncharacteristic of his graceful and well-prepared game. He doesn't quite look like himself and his usual edge was missing. Mardy played at the top of his game but I think Roger just can't yet sustain a full schedule of play.
My husband had mono in college and was out of commission for well over a month and didn't really get back to himself for one entire semester of school. I too know others who say the same after a mono bout. So perhaps Roger's pushing too hard too soon. I think athletes believe they're not as vulnerable as the rest of us. How many times have we heard of players coming back too soon after illness or injury?
Sorry your TV coverage has been poor. We have had coverage the entire week, although it's difficult to find it in our various program guides. We pretty much have to just guess when it's going to be on.
I really am missing not going to Indian Wells this year. At first it wasn't so bad (I was remembering the crowds, parking problems, and the heat that often reached into the high 90's or beyond) but now I wish we'd planned ahead and found a way to accommodate our dogs. The desert is so spectacularly beautiful and I am really missing not having this vacation. Of course, with Mark missing in action, it could have been disappointing again the way it was last year. Oh well, maybe Mark will be back next year and so will we!
