Seniors Tournament Newport Rhode Island - August 25th - Mark could be on the list of players!
Jim Courier talks about this weekends event
I could be wrong but from the way I read this article, an Outback event is scheduled for this weekend at Newport, Rhode Island and Mark has signed up.
I think the event is already underway. It's possible Mark is playing an exhibition match (or two)?

I hope Mark is playing this weekend, it would be so wonderful to know he is on the court again playing.

i saw that val but couldnt find any mention of mark on their website.. courier could've meant how Mark signed up in the past. will wait and see, but i'm a little doubtful.

I am seriously getting mean and grumpy, awaiting news of Mark's official return.
Technically, it maybe 1 week short of 9 months but with so little of Mark playing tennis last year, it feels much much longer 
I can understand if the protected ranking has come into play so that Mark can gain direct entry into some of the Australian Summer tournaments but I am just desperate to see him playing and playing strongly.

It appears to me that what Jim was saying is that Mark has signed on to play on the Outback Champions Tour when he is able to play. The above schedule shows the same thing as the site you linked--that Mark is not playing in Rhode Island this weekend.
I really wish we had some news too.
