Melbourne Grand Prix (March 13-16) - Mark favourite to win the celebrity race
Net link: www.grandprix.com.au
Drivers lift their game for Grand Prix
Article from: Herald Sun
March 08, 2008 12:00am
THEY might not have set any lap records but these forklift drivers yesterday made sure the grand prix track was primed for when the big guns arrived.
Melbourne is in pole position for the start of the F1 season next Thursday with Albert Park's transformation almost complete.
The four-day event begins on Thursday with the V8 Supercars and will finish with a bang on Sunday with rock band Kiss closing the show after the big race.
All eyes will be on home grown F1 hero Mark Webber with Lasseters Sportsbook having the Aussie as a $51 outside chance of winning.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen is favourite at $2.35 ahead of young gun Lewis Hamilton at $3.50.
Melbourne boy Mark Philippoussis is favourite to win the hotly contested celebrity race at $4.50 while fellow tennis player Nicole Pratt is an outsider at $67.
This will be fun to watch. I hope Mark finishes the race and doesn't bingle. There will be a lot of amateurs out there on the track with him.
Val

Re: Melbourne Grand Prix (March 13-16) - Mark favourite to win the celebrity race
Thanks Jill.
I don't plan to watch this coverage just for an off chance to see Mark, but if it's possible, I will and hopefully we may even get a clip of Mark.
I think the bingle factor will determine how Mark goes in the race. Sounds as though he is being very competative, as is very natural
Scud hit fires up Heal
Article from: Herald Sun
March 14, 2008 12:00am
THERE was drama on and off the track at Sandown yesterday after basketballer Shane Heal and tennis player Mark Philippoussis's cars collided.
Heal was reportedly livid that Philippoussis had rammed him during training for the Grand Prix celebrity race on Sunday.
"I've had enough and I'm not going back out there," Heal was heard saying, a source told Confidential.
There were a couple of other bingles, including one between retired AFL greats Glenn Archer and Nathan Buckley.
Our spy told us that motocross freestyle rider Robbie Maddison looked like being the favourite to take out the race, and that the Scud was very competitive.
A couple of the boys from Kiss flew in by helicopter to have a lap around the track.
Bassist Gene Simmons was a little white after his spin.

Re: Melbourne Grand Prix (March 13-16) - Mark favourite to win the celebrity race
lol, he didn't do so great in the qualifying today... it's a little confusing on the site it says he came in 13th, and on the pdf he is listed at 14... either way i don't think he'd be too happy with that result.
I will only tune in around the scheduled race time over the weekend... I have zero interest in motor racing, so hopefully they are on time and ch10 show the celeb race.
Can't wait to see the photos of him looking smart in his suit tonight!

WOO HOO!
Mark did brilliant today in his race and jumped from 13 to 5!! If he races the same way tomorrow hopefully he'll get a podium finish. Unfortunately no images so far from last night.. I'm guessing some might show up for the Sunday papers.
GO MARK!!

Re: Melbourne Grand Prix (March 13-16) - Mark favourite to win the celebrity race
I found out why there's been no photo's of Mark from the GP Ball - he didn't attend.
Apparently he called 30 minutes before and cancelled. So far no explanation has been given and the organisers were not too impressed because it was part of his commitments for the week.
It's not like him to do a no-show at an event like that, so something must of come up at the last minute.

Re: Melbourne Grand Prix (March 13-16) - Mark favourite to win the celebrity race
Yes, just read the same thing in today's paper.
The article also says that Shane Heal and Mark are on bad terms because of an earlier bingle during practice and it's causing friction. Whatever! Shane Heal needs to act his age. This celebrity challenge is all about sporting stars. The adrenaline will be running and now that Mark is finally back on his feet, he is hungry for a winning feeling!
I think he is jealous of Mark's thick luscious dark hair
There is a pick of Mark in the paper, it's the one I posted earlier with the AdelaideNow story.
