Re: Wimbledon 2007
wimbledon is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (litterally - its freezing!)
I dont know how but somehow today we managed to walk right in to get a ground pass - they said we timed it perfectly!
didnt really watch any matches on the outside courts - we were a little overwhelmed. all the merchandise and souveniers were very tempting.
got to see rafa nadal on the practice courts which was pretty awesome - have never seen him before back home. also got to see jonas bjorkman, thomas johansson and simon aspelin (yeah ok, so ive seen them quite a lot of times...) also on the practice courts
still pretty jet lagged and the my body clock is all stuffed up - its almost 1am here but more like 10am back home.
going to try to get some sleep now, but my brother has broadband (we're staying with him) so i should be able to post occasionally.

Re: Wimbledon 2007
Great to hear from you and so pleased you are enjoying it despite the rubbish weather! Today is just awful....i wonder if there will be a peoples sunday tomorrow. Anyway just incase you don't know Centre Court tickets are going up for sale on the wimbledon website during the late evening for next days play for the first time ever. The seats are up in the gods hehe but well worth it, they are even going up for grabs for the men's final. I shall certainly be having a go at bagging myself some!
Hope you continue to have a great time!

OL, could I borrow your Whinging Permit a moment?
I just learned that Tommy Haas has withdrawn from the tournament due to a bleeding muscle tear. This poor guy is injured almost as much as Mark. It's really too bad for him even though he was going to be up against Roger Federer; I think 4th round would have been his best showing at Wimbledon ever.
I had been looking forward to this match since Friday , especially because none of Tommy's matches had been on US TV.
Has anyone heard any updates about Mark's health status?
Christina, I hope you have better weather Monday.

Re: OL, could I borrow your Whinging Permit a moment?
I knew london weather sucked, but i wasnt expecting it to be this bad.
Saturday absolutely killed me. Mum and I got there at 7am to line up to get into the grounds at 10.30 to go straight to the re-sale queue for centre court - we desperately wanted to get in to see Soderling vs Nadal (me, being the swedish fan that i am, knows a lot about soderling and thought he had a chance). after almost 10 hours of standing in the rain we finally got tickets to centre court which was a really big deal in itself. however within about 3 minutes of us getting the tickets, it started raining again!!!! we went to see our seats in centre court anyway and sat out there in the rain for a few more hours, with the referee giving updates every 30 minutes of the weather, but they never came onto court and abandoned play late in the evening
i am extremely jealous of those who saw the match today on court 1. we didnt go today, we are still recovering from saturday's ordeal. it was a really close match which still isnt finished (in the 5th set!) so we might try to get in to see the end tomorrow.
sorry i cant post very long updates - more news when i can
xoxo

Re: OL, could I borrow your Whinging Permit a moment?
It's such a shame that the weather is spoiling your time Christina!
I'm not even bothering to watch any matches this year as it doesn't seem to get far before the rain starts up so I'm storing up on sleep until the qtrs/semis.
I hope you have better luck today and the rest of the week ++++++++++++
What is it with these Wimbledon officials that won't schedule play on the middle Sunday like all the grand slams? It would make life so much easier for the players having to wait around for full-on packed days that get effected by rain delays.

Re: Wimbledon 2007
Did I mention that we still have a hose pipe ban here in south east england due to lack of rain hehe?
It was madness not to play the middle Sunday and madness that it isn't played as standard. However I have heard that the tournament gets a huge amount of hassle off the local council if they have a peoples sunday.
I still haven't bought the centre court tickets available online, mainly due to the rain and the fact that they are now nearly 100 pounds.
Tradition seems to out-do common sense at Wimbledon, I would absolutely love to see a nightmatch at a grandslam the atmosphere must be incredible. Think I will need to go overseas for that!

Re: Wimbledon 2007
Really sorry you had such a miserable Wimbledon Christina, but hope you did wander round the outside courts the 1st week, there are just so many matches going on. I know there were a couple of days with a good amount of tennis, so maybe you did get to watch something good.
I was abroad for most of it (bad timing with the holiday booking - my husband's idea!!) but staying with friends in France, we did get to see some tennis & a friend has recorded the finals forme.

Re: Wimbledon 2007
My apologies for such a ridiculously late reply.. The moment I got back to Brisbane I was back at uni and work - and its taken me a rather long time to get back into the swing of things. Had some exams last week so glad that is over.
Regarding Wimbledon...
Despite the bad weather - I had an absolute ball. I didn't get to see a *great* deal of tennis, but it was still an amazing experience. I managed to get myself onto centre court (but didn't see any tennis ) and also court 1 (where i saw about 9 games).
I highly recommend the experience to any tennis fan - its certainly worth the expense and jet-lag - now I'm just wondering how soon I can go back
Hope everyone is well
Christina
