Where did your "handle" come from?
Its the middle of the night here and I am up in the lounge with a sick son sleeping in front of the fire. And I am fascinated and intreged by the creativity of peoples login names. Mine is very simple and dull 5hauna, as Shauna was already taken, probably by someone with about as much imagination as I have. But that being said I like my name and like to assert it so I am not swallowed up by my many other aliasses (sp?) eg Mum, Hon, purr-purr(thats cat talk) and thump-thump-piddle (thats puppy talk).
Anyhow I wondered if anyone would like to share their "handle" story, Id love to hear what prompts your choices

Mine is my pen name. It's easy to spell unlike my real surname and Nell is my families nickname for me.

Re: Where did your "handle" come from?
I have no imagination, either, when it comes to creating my handle or screenname. My real name is Candy and I am deaf so I put DeafCandy because that's who I am. Even my freewebs name has deafcandy in it. Ah, well, it makes it easier for me to remember, too!

Re: Where did your "handle" come from?
A long time ago, I tried figuring out how I'd like my name written in kanji. Stupid, I know.
I found a kanji meaning "waterfall"; 滝. I liked it because it was made up with the symbols for "water" on the left and "dragon" on the right. I never found any other kanji I liked for writing out my name, though, and as it happens 滝 can also be read as "Taki", a girl's name (as per the Soul Calibur series ^_^:).
I was still inspired, though, and eventually I picked out the kanji for "flowing water", 流水. Not even remotely like my real name, but the handle "Ryusui" has served me well for many years since.

Re: Where did your "handle" come from?
It goes back to the days before there was a www. NCSA mosaic [the first browser] hadnt even come along let alone IE, firefox, safari... etc. I heard from a friend that I could get a cheap dial up account from our university 'convocation' org. Back then logon names were limited to 8 letters and, according to most of what you could see usually consisted of a family name, abbreviated if needed, followed by a first initial [in case you had a popular name like smith]. To use a real name for what was essentially a home account would have seemed boring. Since I always had a fascination with winter/xmas/etc and was missing the snow since I was then living in hot climate.....
well you can guess the rest, right!?
Now you know what the F is for... Frosty.
ps - S8, I was just going to say how coincidental you have the same name as my daughter, too late for that now.

Re: Where did your "handle" come from?
I too have to be put into the 'a little boring category'. My name is Cathy and that was already taken so I had to add a number to it and 18 was suggested. Not my age or anything significant like that just a random number. It is now that I start thinking that I should have put a little bit more thought into it.
I love your home names though Shauna!!!

Re: Where did your "handle" come from?
Mine is just the simple answer to why I'm here. Because it's all for her (my dd).
