Re: Andromeda's Travel Journal
I'm really sorry about the delay at getting the pics up. Been rather busy, I got married and moved to Australia. I'm working on posting them now. Apologies again.
I've also posted Andromeda to Singapore on the 29th October, so I'm surprised and rather concerned that she hasn't arrived yet :/ If she disappears I'll post a replacement Sylvanian from over here, but I'd hate for Andromeda to have disappeared...

Re: Andromeda's Travel Journal
Brunei, October - Andromeda meets the local fruit
Whoa, a big green spiky durian!
Mmm, *nom nom* It tastes...different...
A load of durians
Opening...
This is a different variety if durian, it's small and has longer thinner needles. The flesh is yellow, as you can see, and it has a stronger taste as well as being firmer and not as creamy as the white variety.
This is a mangkang, I believe. It smells rather like a mango.
This is tarap, a really sweet fruit. If it gets overripe, it'll taste like pure sugar.
Each of these little bulbs has a seed in it, and the seed is edible when cooked, I'm told. We didn't cook them because Pei's mother said that she would inevitably end up eating all the seeds herself as no one else likes them.
Ooo, yeah, I found the fruit basket! Behind me is a fruit called langsat, and it's sweet but has a rather sticky white sap that's difficult to get off your fingers. The red, hairy fruit on my right is the rambutan, a nice sweet fruit. The top layer of the seed tends to come off onto the fruit, so you have to chew or cut it off. The last fruit in the basket is the mangosteen. I remember sitting in a basket of them in Malaysia. The mangosteen has a juice that stains your fingers purple
Hmm, I think I'll go for the mangosteen...
Bonus shot:
A stray prawn cracker! All mine! MINE!
---
More shots to come later, I need to sleep now...

Re: Andromeda's Travel Journal
Brunei, October - The waterfront and Yayasan in the daytime
Freckles took me out in her car back to the waterfront. It's so different in the daytime! There were water taxis zipping around on the river everywhere!
Gyaaah!! Too fast!!
Freckles: Vroom vroom!
Oh, phew, we've stopped. I think that sudden braking has caused my internal organs to rearrange themselves.
We've driven up to the waterfront and these are some of the buildings we photographed at night
Here are some pics of the busy river traffic. The water village is in the background.
Here is a waterfront restaurant
This place here is next to the restaurant and where you can board the taxis.
People selling durians out of a car boot in front of the restaurant.
Since Yayasan and the mosque was nearby, we took a trip down there too to get some daytime shots.
The village as seen from the Yayasan square.Too bad about the huge bus though.
The mosque behind us.
A closer look.
This is a stone boat in front of the mosque, we did not get any pictures of it the previous night as all the lights on it had been turned off.
There's also a little fountain there, we managed to catch it on one of the days it's turned on.
Say cheese!
We waited till nightfall to get some cool shots of the boat and the mosque with all the lights.
After that we went into the Yayasan shopping complex to grab some dinner. There was live fish in tanks at the food court, you can choose the fish you want and the cook will prepare it for you.
Huge lobster!
I have no idea what this creature is.
We decided on dim sum, but only got a photo of the chicken feet. According to Pei, chicken feet are yummy and the flesh just slides right off.
Some of the drinks available in the supermarket.

Re: Andromeda's Travel Journal
The pictures are alll great; they all give me a vicarious thrill. However, I love the pictures of pinky Manor best, where Andromeda interacts with Pinky St. characters. I think the best part of trips is the chance to meet and befriend new people. Thanks, duckpuddle!
