How to enjoy new sylvanians longer?

I just get email from London's sylvanian shop. They confirmed my order to be more than 140£, yikes! I had to call my fiance and with long teeth he promised that I could spend that much money on sylvanians :P

I started to wonder, how you guys make the joy of new sylvanians last as long as possible?
Last time I got many items at same time, I put them into my doll house, made them look nice and that was about it.
Now my fiance told me, he won't give me all the items at once! emoticon I am hoping to get one or two package per week. So the excitement will last longer and I have something to wait. And ofcourse, I won't make another expensive order right away :P He actually told me not to buy any sylvanians for next 3 months x_X Hope I can count this month as one of them :P

I am a little ashamed... Feeling like an alcoholic or something.

I think most of us had a Sylvanian meltdown one time or another. I personally had one many times before ! I would advice you to take time of buying Sylvanians and to enjoy them. Take pictures, shift the furniture a bit or even play with them !

Trust me, this is indeed natural for a Sylvanianholic to feel this ! Hope you recover !

Opening Sylvanians is like Christmas morning and that thrill can give a person a pretty good high. You are right that it's like being an alcoholic. I know these feelings of the having the high, then the low after the high wears off and the shame attached to the whole process emoticon

To combat some of the high upon receiving new Sylvanians, I catalogue all of my purchases on my website. (Click on the banner at the bottom of my posts to see what I mean.) When I open new Sylvanians, I have to go through each box, list all the items in the box, then photograph them. This sort of takes the high away when there is work involved in getting new Sylvanians. After collecting as many as I have, the cataloguing process gets somewhat annoying. So not only do I get the thrill of the purchase and box opening, I also have to deal with the not as enjoyable work part of collecting. The work part has helped me slow down my collecting, among other factors. You don't need a website to do catalogue your collection. You can do it in a notebook, or on files on your computer.

I also make videos of my collection, though not very many people are going to do this. However, you can make stories (with or without words) by taking a series of themed photos and posting the photos to an image hosting site or a personal website that you create yourself. This way, you can be engaged with your Sylvanians for a longer period of time instead of just opening the boxes and putting them on display.

Hope that helps emoticon

I agree. Take photos, start a website, something like that. That keeps the enjoyment going. Crafts for your sylvanians (making clothes, food items, custom shops, or whatever) is also a great way to enjoy them.

Thank you for your advice, they really soothed my guilt a bit emoticon

Making a website of my sylvanians is a great idea. Even though I don't have that much items. Categorizing my collection is an excellent thought too.

lostmymarblz, I have visited your website many times and it has been a great help to choose what I should collect. Same thing with gpwsbeaver's site too. You have marvellous collections emoticon

Last month was pretty tight with money so I had time to do other sylvanian-releated things than buying and searching. I sewed one dress and painted a portrait to my dollhouse. I actually used one of gpwsbeaver's photos (from christmas dress-shop) as a model. Hope you dont mind emoticon Made nice wooden frames for it too emoticon

I'm also one of those who catalogs everything, and like LostMyMarblz said, that does get annoying after awhile, which will slow you down. And of course, having to find space to store them will slow you down also.

What I do when I feel like I really shouldn't have collected all these things is go back and look at some figures or items that I haven't looked at in awhile. There are so many truly adorable SF things! Going back and looking at some older things really makes me remember why I do this. It's almost, though not quite, like when I first got the item.

And as others said, even if you don't have room for a big display, just get some small things out and set them up wherever you do have a little space. I often do it around my computer. Then you can rotate that as often as you like, do seasonal scenes or whatever. If you have enough variety in your collection, I don't think you'll get tired of it.
