Bob Faulkner

I'm going to lay my cards on the table now and make my position clear.

I don't like Bob as a manager. I don't like his style, I don't think he has much tactical ability and I think that occasionally his team selections are a little bit puzzling. I also believe that he doesn't get the best out of the team in terms of motivation.

Having said that, this season is so far so good, despite a few dodgy performances. Bob has proven again and again that he has a network of contacts that is second to none. We've scored points in over 50% of our games played over the last 2 and a quarter seasons and been clearly safe from relegation each time. Most impressive of all, a club with our resources ought really to be mid-table a division below where we are now, but under Bob, Solihull Moors and before that Moor Green became a permanent fixture at this level, which is certainly impressive.

On the other hand though, with the players we do have at our disposal you could be forgiven for suggesting that we really should be at the higher end of mid-table come the end of the season. Is it likely that we'll achieve this? Possibly not.

In the long run, I don't think Bob is the answer. To get him out now, however, might be a mistake. I'd rather see us stick with what we have until the end of the season, make sure we're safe (or not, as it may happen, but hopefully safe) and then a new manager can come in with a clean slate and have a fair crack, and the Bob doubters may be proven completely right or wrong.

That's how I see it. How about the rest of you?

Re: Bob Faulkner

I think it is now ten years that I have been watching his teams. The contacts do bring in good players often on loan. Wade Fairhurst who score one and laid on one for Shrewsbury yesterday is a good example. Is this his magical ability or could another manager find the contacts too?

What I think is poorer than any of the last other 9 years is the entertainment. Yesterday was a win from a distinctly drab performance. I have been disappointed with virtually every home game and not purely because we have picked up so few points. Away from home I think we are a better side to watch. Not sure why, maybe I am in a better frame of mind from the exhilaration of being at Stafford, Ellesmere Port or Gainsborough. We have never had a great record at home, at least since the relocation, and wonder if we have to have a different approach at Damson Park which may come down to the manager's selection or motivational ability (don't laugh).

I think you are right about us being a division above our natural level but if we are there then it is essential to compete and entertain as much as possible. If Bob can't do that then it is time for a change.

From a neutral point of view I think he's done a fantastic job. He's keeping a team in the BSN that in all honesty is punching above their weight. He hasn't got a massive budget but is still attracting good youngsters to the club.

Football is all about results and sometimes too much emphasis is put on performances.

It's an interesting thought what football is about
Arsenal fans will tell you they want to win some silverware, but without doubt they are an entertaining football team.

I remember speaking to a chelsea fan when the special one arrived and they layed quite dour football but won the league his point of view it was about results.

I'd like to be entertained and win 10-9 each week oh and only pay £5.00 admission (consessions for £1.00)

Still that's unlikely I think we're at least 2 levels above where we should be based on finance/fan base.

So on that basis I'd have to say Bob is doing a good job, but maybe we should change manager and slip down a level or two

Surely as a spectator sport football ought to be about the entertainment too?

After all, if football had never been entertaining then people would never have started wathing it.

I think the players have the ability to entertain and win at the same time, we just have to get them to do it.

Today I was going to give a contructive opinion on the management situation but because of the weekends team selections and tactics . I will postpone my reply to the MOOR5 topic for a few days, until I am in calmer frame of mine.

According to Ray Houghton on talksport. It's purely about results and if you want to be entertained you should go to the theatre
