Erik Mona's "From the Editor" from DUNGEON #121
Okay, this is wierd. I am going to post a review of a "From the Editor" column of a magazine that has little if any use to most of the people who will read this. The mere fact that I am one of the few people here who buy this magazine every month however, is one of the main reasons why I am going to review this column/editorial here.
I popped open my copy of the newest Dungeon today and began by reading words that almost made me weep with joy. "He gets it." I thought, "Someone else out there feels the same way I do and wants the same thing I want." Of course, he has an editor-in-chief position to help him express it and his writing is far more eloquent than mine. All the same, Eirk Mona is starting a new D&D campaign. It will be hirst first time back on the "better side of the screen" for some time. I can't wait to hear about it as he writes more this summer. These accounts and adventures will make the magazine even better over the coming months.
I must leave you with an excerpt from the column that can only be given justice in Mr. Mona's words:
quote: The campaign theme will be classic DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, in the GREYHAWK mold. The action will play out before a collage of iconic landscapes - the forlorn cairn, the fetid swamp, the peerless metropolis of wizards and thieves. At every turn the heroes will face new danger, leading to another piece of a growing mystery. And for each conclusion, three new questions will arise. Hated archvillains will turn out to be pawns of still more influential figures, who themselves are but servants of an even greater power. Wheels within wheels.
I'm out to capture the essence of D&D with my new campaign. I've got just the players and the authors to help me do it. I'm starting a new campaign and I couldn't be happier...
Don't forget your dice, and bring money for pizza. We're about to play some D&D.
Profound indeed. Thank you Mr. Mona, for the words that capture the magic feeling so well.
