Starting out
Hi Everyone!
Im fairly new to this site, but I read several of the student nurse diaries on here before making my final decision to apply for nursing and found it really useful for getting to know what life as a student nurse is like and the practical side of placements. I decided I would keep my own diary hopefully to help other people get an idea of what's what and probably give myself a good giggle in a few years time!
I am 24 and currently undergoing a career mid-life crisis. I finished uni 3 years ago after doing politics and have been working in local government since then. I thought inititally that this was the job I had always wanted but now realise that I dont want to sit in front of a computer for the next 40 years of my life. I had considered nursing at school but initially certain things put me off. However I did some volunteering in my local hospital and it has really put my mind at rest that I would enjoy this kind of work. I am starting my H Dip in Adult nursing on 22nd at Bradford uni and am the most excited I have been in years.
So this is my last week of writing boring briefings and reports. I am starting my first shadow shift as a HCA on the hospital bank on Monday and cant wait. Really nervous as i only have minimal care experience but have been assured that they will teach me the right method of doing things etc.
Just waiting to hear where I am going to be next week. If anyone has any advice please feel free! Would be nice to here from other newbies too!
