My First Week
I thought id do a little blog on my first week 
Tuesday:
This was my first day. It went pretty well, i arrived and found two other girls who didnt have a clue where they were going, so we grouped together and found the way!
Had a whole day of presentations from a variety of different people. We got our SID cards & student packs and lots of odd bits of paper! We had a talk about placements too. The do's and donts, the placement areas, and who to go to see if anything goes wrong etc.
We went home at around 2pm.
Weds:
We were back in the same room again (all 60 odd of us.. i know not a very big intake eh!), and we did yet more talks!
First talk of the day was the Occupational Health talk - this wasnt too bad, just saying why we have to be vaccinated against what, what to do with certain injuries we may get (needlestick etc).. and where to go if we need any advice. Also told if we come down with D&V bug we have to send in a sample. Nice!
During this time there were groups of 8 being fitted for our uniforms. When i finally got my turn, i was saw the horrendous thing! It was maroon stripped with pale yellow.. grotty! Found out that ours were not that colour and these were just to try on..
Trousers are bloody awful, up to your tum and really tight at top, massivley baggy down to ankle where they nip in again. Ew.
Dresses/Tunics arent so bad. I quite liked them.
Ive ordered 3 dresses, 2 tunics and 1 pair of trousers. I think im going to be in the dresses most of the time thanks!
Had tutorial in the afternoon, some group activities (as we had been split into 2 groups by this time). Home at 3pm.
Thurs:
Moving and handling for 3 hours in morning. Quite interesting as ive never done it before.
Home at 12.
Friday:
Be at maternity unit for 8am.. had to get up at 6am to meet friends at 7.30.. ahh! Freshers fair at Fulbourn - Victoria House.
Today at the freshers fair, we had presentations from the director of faculty of health and social, Royal College of Nursing, Unison and Student Union.
Went into the fair, joined RCN (came to the conclusion they were nicer & heard people say theyre better on here..) - free Oxford pocket sized Nurses Dictionary, Pen & a handy little card with normal blodd pressure, respirations etc on. Dont have ANY money till first bursary - so joined on direct debit for 84p a month. Bargain!!
Also signed up to give blood, got some NUS Extra info (although i registered for that on tuesday), and got lots of other random info - also near enough chased around the hall with a chlamydia testing stick.Haha. I wasnt having any of it as i had a full sexual health exam not so long ago and not changed partners Got home about 2pm!
So thats my week! Next week ive got:
Student union, student advisor, hospital chaplaincy, the back, first aid, tutorial, library skills (yawn), lectures, tutorial, life support theory, introduction to module 1, authentic world (Im really looking forward to first aid, lectures, life support theory, module 1 and authentic world - finally some decent work!)
Thats all folks! I shall keep you updated as much as i have time for.. which im guessing is going to get less and less haha!
