1st Placement is NEXT WEEK!
Hello
Not updated for a while, so thought id give whoever reads this the low-down!
Ive been given my first assignment (a 3000 word essay on "what is mental health?"), so ive been getting loads of references from here, there and everywhere.
We have done 6 hours (2 sessions) of manual handling (so i can now use hoists, slide sheets, get people off the floor, out of chairs, into chairs etc). Ive also learnt some basic observations (manual blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respirations), ive had Basic Life Support training and been assessed on it (Can now deal with choking and do CPR), ive also done very basic First Aid.
And somehow thats all been squeazed into the past 4 weeks! Next week i go into my very first placement! Im going to a local care home. It will be my first experience of any care work, and im quite apprehensive. At the moment i am waiting for the care homes manager to call me back (been waiting 3 days now - yes ive rang again got told to wait...), as i need to know atleast what time to start!
Next monday we are at the hospital for their in house training ready for ward placements, then straight into placement on tuesday for 3 weeks. This placement will be for 12 weeks, we have some uni weeks between to split it all up, then it will be end of Modue 1! End of the first 6 months. Bugger me! I can see that these 3 years are going to pass quickly!
We picked up our uniforms on weds, theyre pale grey dresses/tunics with a white trim, and black awful trousers. I have gone for the "3 dresses and 2 tunics" option! Dresses seem to suit me a hell of alot better! And fit nicer! Athough my shoes (which are sooooo comfy), are black (rules!) do NOT suit pale grey. Oh well.. i guess its not a fashion parade eh!
Ermmm what else? Oh! Ive been offered a bank HCA job at the same hospital as before, have learnt to deal with the horrible recruitment manager and it turns out he is actually quite nice! Lol. Ive been told to wait for another response from him once he has received my 2 references. (He also asked for Occupational Health clearance and CRB clearance, both of which i have already due to Uni being at same hospital - woohoo).
So hopefully ill get my first bank shift soon. Im not expecting it for a couple of months though. Bit concerned about the induction training, i am hoping its the same training as we are having on monday so i dont have to take any time out of placement/uni for it!
Well thats about it, im off out for a meal with the salon girls now. Will be nice as ive not seen them in a little while. Good to catch up. Although i fear that i wont have much to say to them because of not being in salon anymore :s We will see!
Thanks for reading.. i shall update soon! xx
